Wolfmother React To People Comparing Them To Led Zep

Wolfmother took part in the U.K. music Hall Of Fame last month (November 14), performing a tribute to the great Led Zeppelin who were honored that night. Along with Zeppelin, Prince, Beatles producer George Martin, Brian Wilson, Dusty Springfield, Rod Stewart, Bon Jovi and James Brown were all inducted.

Wolfmother was a fitting choice. Many people have been comparing them to Led Zeppelin since people first laid ears on the power trio. Bass and organ player Chris Ross said that the Led Zeppelin comparison was flattering...initially.

"Um, not at first. Like from our first few shows people were saying, "Oh, this is like this Led Zeppelin/Black Sabbath sound. And I was like, 'Oh, are you kidding?' To have that is such, people saying stuff like that was kind of blowing my mind. 'Wow, you really think it's that good? It's kinda... I thought people were being really generous, and then after a while some people say it like it's a bad thing or as if we're like plagiarizing them or trying to be them or something, which I thought was really weird. I don't pretend that we're... There's similarities in our sound, but we're not trying to emulate them at all. We're totally honestly and earnestly the three of us getting in there and playing what feels good for us."

Ross also talked about the experience of performing Led Zeppelin's music at the U.K. Hall Of Fame.

"For us after two-and-a-half years starting out playing to fifty people, and then two years later we're inducting Led Zeppelin into the Hall Of Fame. It's like, 'Wow.' You couldn't ask for a more perfect scenario to things just working out. It was great. It was such an honor. Like, 'Wow, there's James Brown!' and Jimmy Page got his award and walked off the stage and just nodded to us and we were like, 'Alright, we're going to play you a song now.' Far out. In the audience was like Tony Iommi and David Gilmour, and [Wolfmother drummer] Myles was freaking out because Bon Jovi was there, and I was freaking out because Beyonce was there, and... It was cool."

The U.K. Music Hall of Fame can still be seen on VH1 Classic. Check local listings for time and date. Meanwhile, Wolfmother is continuing its tour, which wraps up December 12 in Hollywood, California.

i love how they denied even sounding like them at all, saying they dont draw inspiration from that but indy music. they flat out ripped off the old school sound and now their flattered, good band but cmon

I think that anyone that even relativily makes music close to Zeppelin will be judged right away considering that the bands so legendary,I can't really blame people for thinking that Wolfmother would do something like that.

i agree, you definitely can't blame them. the only reason that wolfmother is singled out from the countless other bands that style themselves like zeppelin did is because of the singer. he's got a great voice, and i don't think he's necessarily thieving plant's style, but stockdale's one of the only guys nowadays (besides like, justin hawkins) who sings like that. first time i ever heard them on the radio, i was sitting there trying to figure out who it was. i thought led zeppelin, robert plant solo, and then had someone tell me it was wolfmother. so yeah, the comparisons are inevitable for these guys, even though soooo many other bands sound like zep

I love Wolfmother but if You hear Andrew Stockdale singing live you can hardly compare him to Robert Plant. I would compare it to someone jumping on a cat.
But I love the Album

Yeah I agree, they only sound like zeppelin on the song woman and that's it. I'd say they sound more like deep purple then zeppelin because of the excessive keyboarding.

Wolfmother compared to Zeppelin? Ha, ha. Page could actually play guitar whereas some of Stockdale's solos are utterly abysmal. Many of his poorly executed bends don't reach anywhere near the intended target resulting in an effect akin to a schoolboy's first efforts. And how could anyone mistake Stockdale's voice for Plant's? You'd have to be unconscious. Deep Purple too comprised highly skilled players so to compare Wolfmother just because they have a keyboard player is like comparing my stick man drawings to Renoir because we both have hands.

Wolfmother is a good band. But there no zeppilen. I can hear it in there music but i hough black sabbath more then zep. I didnt mind there cover and imagin the pressure. But i think the still have time to find there own sound.
