frontman Alex Turner
has said that he had to ban his mum from attending festivals the band are playing at, NME
Although Penny Turner
was at Glastonbury
, where the audience sang happy birthday to her, her son has said that he can't "be naughty"
if she is on site at a festival, and added that they've agreed that she she can only go to festivals when Arctic Monkeys are not on the bill.
"She had a lot of fun, maybe more than me,"
Turner told the Sun
about his mum at Glastonbury. "She was there with all her gang. I didn't even get the tickets for them, she went and organised it for herself, for her birthday. There's something about a big festival and knowing your mum is around somewhere. I can't be naughty if she's there."
He added: "I asked if, in future, we could check which festival she wants to go to and which ones I'm playing at. I absolutely love her though, don't get me wrong."
Arctic Monkeys are currently William Hill
's favourites to win the 2013 Barclaycard Mercury Prize
, after the nominations were announced
last night. Arctic Monkeys' recently released fifth album "AM
" and David Bowie
's "The Next Day
" both have odds of 4/1, according to the competition's official bookies.
Meanwhile, Arctic Monkeys could be on course
to beat Daft Punk
for the title of the fastest-selling album of 2013, according to the Official Charts Company
. The band's fifth album 'AM' has currently sold over 97,000 copies so far this week since its release on Monday (September 9). If sales continue at their current rate, the band could overtake the French dance titans, who currently hold the record for the fastest selling album of 2013 after clocking up 165,000 sales of their album "Random Access Memories
" in the first week of sales.
