V50 Review

manufacturer: Ibanez date: 09/02/2013 category: Acoustic Guitars
Ibanez: V50
The guitar does hold well when playing, it can be used both for chords, fingerpicking and what not. Sliding, hammer-on's and pull-offs are easily played on it because it does a good job on picking up and amplifying everything you play.

Features: I had a chance to play this guitar (the black version) and I have to say that it is incredible easy to press the strings and to barr chords, which is partially because the string tension is ideal and because the neck is rather thin for an acoustic, which works ideally for me. The body is a typical dreadnought, it is not too big and its very light and it is loud enough, so its a pretty good deal if you need a guitar to carry around and play around the campfire or something. The back and sides of the body are made out of agathis, the top is spruce and the fretboard is made out of rosewood. I am not completely impressed by the tuners because they don't seem to be completely reliable & accurate/manuverable when tuning, but they do keep the guitar in tune once they are tuned. // 8

Sound: The sound is always hard to describe, this guitar does have a wide variety of sound and I am especially impressed by the depth of it. If you come from rock background, this will suit you perfectly because it's main power is the deep powerful "bass-y" sound. However, it is still made of laminated wood, so the sound is not completely "full," despite being rich, it still fails to measure to the full-wood guitars, so if this is an issue, you might want to check out the full wood version. Also note that the guitar is NOT acoustic-electric. // 9

Action, Fit & Finish: The factory setting was perfect on this model, I read some reviews that were negative and I have to stress the importance of checking the guitar before buying it, because it is after all a cheap guitar and hence the possibility of factory-defects is real. Make sure that the action is not too high, because it shouldn't be. Make sure that the metal frets on the fret board are tugged in properly because they might be sticking out which is a factory-defect that will make your guitar unplayable and it will cut your fingers. Make sure that the bridge is not curved abnormally, which is another defect reported by buyers. I repeat, in the case of the guitar that I tested, nothing was wrong, the action was ideal, there was no fret buzz and the guitar was perfectly balanced, so make sure yours is too! // 10

Reliability & Durability: It is an acoustic guitar so it does hold up during live playing, it stays in tune and it is reliable. However, it's not a guitar you are looking for if you are a professional musician, because of aforementioned features: it's made out of laminated wood, hence the sound is lacking that extra "fullness," it's also just an ordinary acoustic guitar and it does not have an electric outlet. So if you need don't need amp in your gig-playing, you might want to use this one, if you do however, you might want to invest some extra money for the V72 acoustic electric model that you can plug in. // 9

Overall Impression: The guitar does hold well when playing, it can be used both for chords, fingerpicking and what not. Sliding, hammer-on's and pull-offs are easily played on it because it does a good job on picking up and amplifying everything you play. I would say this is an ideal begginer's guitar, especially for begginers who are looking to play acoustic rock and folk songs on it and its not a bad guitar to have around for those experienced guitar players because it's a great guitar to carry around the town and play on picnics and what not because its great value-for-price, it looks neat (the black version) and it sounds great. // 9
