Features: The Tanglewood TW15-CE-B cutaway electric-acoustic guitar is assembled in China, and has 20 good-sized frets. The bridge and the fretboard are rosewood. The guitar itself has a solid American spruce top, and a solid African mahogany back and sides, with a satin finish. It's a cutaway (in case you missed that) and it features mother of pearl and green abalone inlays. The nut and the compensating saddle are bone, and the machine heads are Grover. The EQ system is a B-Band, with 5 great controls (treble, middle, bass, volume and presence). The guitar came fitted with .010 gauge Elixir strings. // 9

Sound: This guitar has an amazing sound for its intermediate price range. I tried Yamaha and Ibanez models that were a few hundred dollars more expensive and they were put to shame by the Tanglewood's sound. I noticed that this guitar had much more low end (depth) than those other guitars, and the high-quality wood produced a glowing sound full of warmth. This guitar need only be plugged in when playing live or jamming with other people, because it's incredibly loud without an amp. When it is plugged in, it sounds just like an acoustic guitar should sound. With the Presence control at full, this guitar could pass for an electric guitar, it's insane. It's also a nice touch that each control except for volume has a default position where it can slide easily into place with a neat "click" sound, so you can always go back to that raw acoustic goodness. I don't stick to a genre when it comes to playing guitar, and this guitar can handle every style you throw at it. // 9

Action, Fit & Finish: The guitar was set-up as well as you could set-up an acoustic guitar, seeing that there's not much that goes to chance (unlike an electric). The only minor faults I could find where a tiny abnormality on the edge of the pick guard (a very small piece was sticking up at the end closest to the bridge), and several tiny pieces of wood that I heard rattling around in the body. The pickguard's flaw was only visible from about 10cm away, and the small pieces of wood splinters fell out after a few minutes of guitar acrobatics. But these things are to be expected. I bought the guitar off the rack, so anyone could have played it etc. // 9

Reliability & Durability: I treat my guitars with a great deal of respect, but if I ever decided to beat the shit out of this one, it would take it like a man. The finish is great and I've No Doubt the guitar will look Brand New for years and years to come. Everything on this guitar is rock solid, and I would have no second thoughts using this at a gig without a backup. This guitar would hold its own in the hands of Charles Manson. It's that badass. // 10

Overall Impression: I've been playing for just over a year, and I also own a Squire Affinity Strat with a Fender Frontman 15G Amp. Coming from the humble beginnings of a Squire, this Tanglewood played like a beautiful dream. Even the relatively bad Frontman 15G Amp couldn't spoil this guitar's sound (don't get me wrong, Squires etc. are great for beginners). It doesn't matter what style of music you play, this guitar will make it it's own. If this guitar were stolen, I would buy it again in the blink of an eye (suicidal tendencies permitting). This is by far the best guitar in it's price range, and for that I would give it a 10/10. The only reason I haven't given it 10s all round is because there are better acoustic guitars available. Needless to say these superior guitars are several thousand dollars more expensive, and this Tanglewood is (I'll say it again) the best guitar you will find for it's relatively intermediate price. Don't hesitate, buy it. Now. // 9
