CMD 102P Review

manufacturer: Markbass date: 06/16/2011 category: Bass Amplifiers
Markbass: CMD 102P
This is a professional piece of equipment that carries a high price tag but it will blow you away and is worth every penny. It's perfect for rehearsal and small to medium venues but an extension 8ohm cab would be handy for really "blow away" volume and also raise it from the floor.

Sound: WOW! It's a beast, a virtual sheep in wolves clothing. A wide variation in tone can be dialled in from bright to thick rich tones with TONS of bottom end. The filters offer a further variation of thickness and brightness. At high settings and extreme treble settings some hiss is evident from the tweeter but only noticeable during silence, no problem. There's tons of preamp headroom and overdrive is not really an option. // 10

Reliability & Durability: Well built with strong metal grille and a carpet or felt type covering. This combo has been used at high levels many times and has perform faultlessly. The case is strong and well made and has been durable, no problems here. The compactness and design of the amplifier might suggest that if it were to fail it would be impossible to repair due to its switching supply and surface mounted components and become scrap. That's modern technology for you. So far it's worked perfectly for many hours. // 8

It's perfect for rehearsal and small to medium venues but an extension 8ohm cab would be handy for really "blow away" volume and also raise it from the floor. It's weight is a huge advantage making it extremely portable and can be used as easily indoors as well as at a gig. I love it and would get another if something happened to it. // 10
