UB600 Review

manufacturer: brownsville date: 09/14/2005 category: bass guitars
UB600
If you've ever wanted to branch out to 6-string bass but thought they where priced out of reach, Brownsville has a bass you'll be proud to own! Made of lightweight basswood and topped with select quilted maple, the UB600 comes with two custom voiced J-Style pickups, 2-band EQ, pickup selector knob and master volume.

Price paid: $ 259

Purchased from: SamAsh

Features: This is a very well made 6 string bass, string through body, active pickup bass guitar that sells for a price you can't walk away from. The quality of the hardware and finish is excellent. Downsides are unless you have hands like the hulk, this baby has one huge handfull of a neck and fretting the B string is like clamping down on an anchor chain. Get the widest strap you can find because this thing has enough weight to cut into you with a regular strap. // 10

Sound: // 10

Action, Fit & Finish: First rattle out of the box required some adjustment to kill fret buzz and that was it. For a guitar of this price range, there are no finish or fit flaws, although there was polish residue that while easily removed, served to remind you that you get what you pay for. // 6

Reliability & Durability: Hard to tell as I have had this axe about six months now, but it seems to stay in tune well, and puts up with knocks and bangs fairly well. I have yet to put a major ouchie in it, although the head seems vulnerable to striking things if you are not used to the length. // 10

Impression: If I lost this guitar I would probably replace it with a 5 string; the strings are closer together on this bass, which makes it harder to slap than the typical 4 string unit. My other gear is an Ibanez GAX70, First Act acoustic and a 5 string banjo. // 10

purple-giraffe :
i got this bass and it sucks. I wish i never rushed out to get it,and saved my $300. The wiring on the bass was shit, and within a month or so it didnt work if i pluged it in. so i had to soldor everything myself(i'll just assume that this was an individual case of horrible assembily). also the bridge is horrible, i have the action as low as it can go and its still extremly high.
