Features: Innovation in an affordable package! The sleek new Deluxe Zone Bass is available in the popular P/J pickup configuration. Flush-mounted Alnico magnets in the P-style. Neck-position pickups add more definition and top-end response to their full-bodied output. The J pickup in the bridge-position is a fully customized version of our Deluxe Active Jazz Bass pickup. 1/4" Alnico magnets and end-to-end hum-cancelling vintage-style construction fill out the tone with mid-range punch and low-end growl. Lots of cool finishes to choose from. // 9

Sound: The sound is pure and round, but the problem with the sound comes from what I believe to be the active setting. It has a stringy sound when given to much volume, and the 9-volt often times comes short. However, the pros of when the sound does go through far outweighs the negative static. // 8

Action, Fit & Finish: Beautiful finish, comes in pewter, black, and sun/red. Looks smooth and professional. Has style but still very practical. Beautiful C-kneck with a maplewood finish. I prefer the VJ kneck with the pewter. // 10

Reliability & Durability: Battery goes out without warning. Static overdrive and a harsh, rough undertone are the only things that stand as negative qualities. Holds it's paint remarkably well and has no finish depletion. // 7

Overall Impression: I play mostly rock and reggae with a little punky funk. This is a great round sound without many sharp sounds. If you enjoy a sound that has very little overdrive but a lot of voice this is definetly your bass. Not your bass if you enjoy playing classic rock. Lacks the reverb sound inherent in vintage basses. This is much more of a new-age alternative bass with a round sound. // 9

Price paid: $ 300

Purchased from: online refurbished

Features: 2002 Zone Bass, split P/J pick-ups, extremely lightweight. Sunburst finish, 22 frets, rosewood neck. Plastic knobs, seem ok. Nice tuning pegs. Bridge is ok. Back of neck was a little sticky at first, could be a little smoother for faster play. The four control knobs give you an ample variety of sounds. // 9

Sound: I play classic rock. Good lows, highs are bright, played thru a variety of amps. No pickguard but it's easy to play w/a pick. Not a slap bass. There is no noise from this guitar unless you really crank up the amp volume. Even then, any background noise is barely audible. // 8

Action, Fit & Finish: Factory set-up was horrible. Needed several adjustments including truss-rod. Pick-ups were loose! Needed to be tightened down. Also, bridge needed a lot of fine tuning. Now it seems better, I recommend a professional set-up if you are not a do-it-yourselfer. // 5

Reliability & Durability: I would have no problems playing this bass live w/out a back-up. // 10

Overall Impression: Good for rock n roll...get lots of comments on the looks of this bass. I wish the E string was a little punchier. Also, the string spacing seems slightly off for some reason. Also, the G string seems too close to the edge of the neckboard. I'm use to it now, but it was a problem in the beginning. Overall, I give this bass a 7 out of 10. // 7
