Studio-4 Review

manufacturer: schecter date: 11/05/2007 category: bass guitars
Studio-4
The Schecter Stiletto Studio-4 Bass Guitar is a sleek, sexy, sharp-looking bass loaded with features that count. Neck-thru construction gives it excellent sustain. A mahogany body gives it tone and resonance. EMG-Hz pickups and active 3-band tone circuitry deliver the output and dialability you need to cover all situations. The neck plays fast and smooth, and satin gold hardware beautifully complements the beauty of its satin-finished bubinga top.

Features: I got this bass about a month ago and it is probably one of my favorite basses out there. It's a nice 24 fret neck-thru design. It's got a gorgeous finish (honey satin) and feels great whilst you play. It's got a pair of active Emg's and the controls let you dial in about any sound you want. I use this bass in tandem with an Ampeg BA115HP and it sounds great. The bass didn't come with any accessories, but the bass alone was accessory enough for me. // 8

Sound: This bass has the ability to highlight whatever sound you would like. It also allows you to choose from a full, fantastically rich sound and the brightest of brights it also has a kind of Funky White Boy sound if you set it correctly. I play mostly funk and some jazz and rock. This bass works for me better than any bass I've seen for the price. I also use a multi effects pedal bard, and it works great with all of the many sounds available. // 9

Action, Fit & Finish: I was actually really surprised at the way the bass was set up. The construction is almost flawless, and the body is just perfect for my body type. The pickups were adjusted just how I like them, and the action was fantastic, I'm usually used to having to adjust all that, but it saved me a little bit of time by not needing it. // 10

Reliability & Durability: I think this bass can withstand any kind of beating I can do to it. The hardware is great. If it needed changing it would only be preference. I'm used to installing a straplok system in my basses, but these buttons are very dependable, now I don't even think about it falling. Gigs are no problem for this bass, I've played a couple in the time I've had it, and wish that I had had this bass before. // 8

Impression: As stated before I play funk, jazz, rock, and basically anything that sounds cool. This bass sounds perfect for what I believe a bass should sound like. With it's rich lows and bright highs it's capable of producing any kind of sound. I've been playing for about two and a half years, which I know doesn't sound like much, but when you're 15 and don't have a car, a lot of progress can be made. I own a BA115HP, and Ibanez ATK Bass, a Boss multi-effect peddle, and a Fender acoustic guitar (not bass). The only thing that I wish this bass had was a passive setting, this is only because sometimes you just want that feel. // 9

Features: Up for grabs is a 2006 model Schecter studio 4. Active pickups, and don't give up just yet. Two mini-style EMG humbuckers give it a nice little tone. It has a master volume with a blend control and a three band EQ as well as a 24 jumbo fret setup and a nice mahogany wood for that full rich look and tone. And to top it all off it's neck through for killer sustain. // 8

Sound: Lots of treble response, I would not say this is a good overall sound because it lacks a lot of that bassy punch. For slap style it's perfect and for just jammin but I gotta say I do like a little kick to my basses. I do play it hooked to a lot of effects and it gets a really cool kind of "out there" experimental tone. It handles all the effexts I hook it to very well especially the disd. As much as I like more lows the treble seems to do the distortion some good // 5

Action, Fit & Finish: Guys I am dissapointed to say this is a bass I do not currently own but God do I wish I do. Stashed with all the rest of the basses in the corner where I work it may not seem to stand out but this is by far one brutal beast of a bass. I can say that I own an Ernie ball Stingray, and as far as speed this bass beats out even that. The Schecter is the fastest bass I have ever played. The finish is amazing, this bass was sent from God, the looks that kill. // 10

Reliability & Durability: This guitar has been in our shop for quite awhile and I honestly don't know why. I would think this bass would be gone as soon as it came in the door. It is well set up and ready to go, I believe it could well stand up to any show without a backup needed. Hard to say whether or not I think the finish ould last. It seems very reliable in every other aspect and I see no reason why it wouldn't be but the extremely thick laquer coat has me wondering about that. Maybe it's just this one? // 9

Impression: I mostly play for a hardcore band and with my style of music I could make this bass work but it ould not easily fit into the blend. At home I play a lot of slap and funk which this bass goes along amazing with. I also play for a praise and worship band at church and I would love to try this thing out one week because I think it would go great onstage there. So the bass a little on the lighter side musicwise but I'm gonna give it a good rating anyway. It's hard to explain but you wanna know why? Go play one and find out. // 8

A mahogany body gives it tone and resonance. EMG-Hz pickups and active 3-band tone circuitry deliver the output and dialability you need to cover all situations. I got it a month ago and I'm still figuring stuff out about it! // 9

Sound: While many people associate Schecter guitars/basses with metal, this bass does so much more than that. With the onboard 3 band EQ, you can get pretty much any tone imaginable. I use it through an Ampeg BA115 and it sounds awesome. One complaint is that the E-string gets a bit boomy at times, but the other strings give a nice, compressed sound. It sustains well. This thing is pretty quiet, but it gives a BARELY noticeable hiss when the treble is 100% up. The sound of this bass suits my style, which is pretty much everything. I also liked how the knobs kinda have a half position so you can relatively know where your knobs are. // 8

Action, Fit & Finish: Since I got it used, I can't comment on this too much. But what I can say is that this bass was awesome when it got to me. Perfectly intonated, and the action was only slightly lower than I like (but I like a high action). All of the routing and cutting was spot on, and the finish on this is amazing. Plus the instrument itself is quite a treat to look at. The neck on this thing is really thin, I find it to be to my liking very much. It feels different from your standard Pbass or Jazz. I happen to love it. I can slide up and down crazy fast. The fret access on this thing is amazing. // 10

Reliability & Durability: This bass will surely be gigged with, and it looks like it will hold up to the job well. Everything seems nice and sturdy. The strap buttons are awesome, but I still want to put strap locks in. Just makes sense to me. I would have no problems gigging without a backup, just maybe a spare battery. The finish on this is amazing, no blemishes in it yet and I'm very clumsy. // 10

Impression: I play almost every kind of music and this fits the bill. The only thing I that it misses a bit is that no amount of EQ will change how hot these pickups are. I can get a pretty mellow tone, but I would love to have a bit more mellowness sometimes when I'm playing jazz. If this was stolen I would for sure buy it again. I love this baby. My favorite feature is the way it looks. I get quite a few compliments on it. If I had my choice I would want the pickups to be a BIT less hot, but you can't have everything. I was comparing it to a Jazz Bass 24 which was 100 bucks more, and I went with this because it has soapbars, neck through construction, and tone unlike a Fender, and a sexy finish. // 9

infinitetoast :
I purchased this bass new and it blows my mind. The tone is really smooth, sometimes a bit boomy but I remedy that by leaving the treble knob cranked 100%. The quality of the construction feels great and the hardware is of excellent quality. I would reccomend this bass to anyone regardless of musical style, it can do it all.

I don't really like their guitars, but I must admit that Schecter makes some pretty sexy basses.
