ERB070 Review

manufacturer: Yamaha date: 11/11/2011 category: Bass Guitars
Yamaha: ERB070
This bass is just enough for learning and doing brutal things to it, for example trying to learn how to remove frets or changing the pickups. The best of it is the quality/price relation.

Price paid: € 250

Purchased from: Marble Yamaha

Features: Its a starter pack bass so, if you are looking for a great bass don't continue reading. It has 24 frets and its 34 in scale. It has a bolt-on maple neck and rosewood fingerboard. The body is made from basswood. It has black gloss finish. It has passive electronics and you can control volume and tone. It has a single split coil pickup (p style). It has Yamaha chromed die cast tuners. It included a tuner (YT-100) a strap, strings, a gig bag, three picks and a bass amp (YB15). // 8

Sound: It doesnt't have a good sound, it just sounds. I've played different styles and its better for pop-rock than any other. I've been using it on the YB15 bass amp and with a Boss ME-50B effects. It has a bright tone, but it has very poor bass sounds. The treble is ok. Its tone is very flat. The difference you can obtain manipulating the tone knob its very poor. // 4

Action, Fit & Finish: Factory setup was very good, I haven't changed anything since I have it. The pickup moves a bit laterally but the rest is perfect. The paint is ok after 3 years using it so its good. The plastic thing that holds the string in the top is a bit misaligned and the bracings are not perfectly aligned. Its a bit rusty but that is normal after 3 years using and not caring about it. // 8

Reliability & Durability: The hardware is durable enough for its purpose, giving starters a bass were to explore if they really want to buy a more expensive one. The strap buttons are very well placed and very durable. If you want to use it on live playing try to use compressors or anything else for making it better. // 8

Overall Impression: This bass is just enough for learning and doing brutal things to it, for example trying to learn how to remove frets or changing the pickups. The best of it is the quality/price relation. Its cheap and durable. The worst, everything else. Great for learners. // 7
