This was the last record to have Austin Carlile as the lead vocalist. The name of the album is taken from a line in the song "Bro, Ashley's Here".

"This Means War" is Attack Attack!'s third full length studio release and the first produced by vocalist/keyboardist Caleb Shomo. "This Means War" is a much more straight forward metalcore album than the band's previous releases.
