Sound: A beautiful sound by one of Canada's most influential folk rock bands. With the release of "Years (By One Thousand Fingertips)", Attack In Black have concreted their position in folk rock from track 1- "Years (by One Thousand Fingertips)" to the final track- "The Surface I Would Travel". Their sound progression from their previous studio release "Marriage" is extremely different from that of "Years". The rock meets Neil Young roots mesh together to form a swell of beautiful acoustic magic. Musically the band is as tight as ever with a somewhat lower quality of recording on "Years". For any hardcore Attack In Black fans it is a huge progression but one can easily find something amazing in what they've managed to accomplish with "Years". Personally I believe that track 2 is the weakest on the album, which wasn't a good way to start the album and yet, there is something for everyone in this album, from soft to hard and everything in between. Simply wonderful. // 8

Lyrics: The lyrics are an effective part of AIB's sound on this new album. The simplicity of the music is completed with the use of well placed words and harmony with catchy layers from all members of the band. In terms of the choice of words, AIB pay homage to partying nights, clever ideas of death and life, and folk rock songs about unmistakably nothing at all. The vox shines as Daniel Romano takes his singing to a new level, increasing his dynamic and note range. The words are definitely the highlight in "Years". // 10

Overall Impression: Attack In Black's "Years (by One Thousand Fingertips)" is a true progression from the band as the step further away from the alternative Canadian rock they were born from and closer to their folk influences. If the album were lost or stolen I would quickly run out and pick it up again. All songs are worth listening to and can't be looked at as individuals but instead as pieces to a big puzzle that makes up "Years". That being said, there is not one standout song, but rather many. In summary, the lyrics are the most natural on the album and although the music is extremely coherent and flexible, it lacks recording quality. On the whole though, Attack In Black's fourth studio album is a huge indie success! // 9
