Sound: Bloodbath bring death metal to it's full potential. The sound on this album packs a lot of aggression and brutality, and the listener is in for one hell of a ride as soon as this album is placed in their CD player. As a super group, each member of the band brings individual and unique ideals to the table. The end product is a death metal album that shows each musician at the top of their game. Songs such as "Soul Evisceration" show that there's still bands that like to tackle the raw speed and aggression of classic death metal, with each instrument at the forefront of technical ability. With members of the band coming from backgrounds such as Hypocrisy, Katatonia, and Opeth. A range of influences blend together to create a great death metal sound. // 10
Lyrics and Singing: Death metal is a genre isn't centred around lyrical content. Although lyrics can be intelligent in places, they are often inaudible due to the nature of the vocalist's style. As with most death metal bands, Bloodbath don't shy away from the taboo nature of gore, death, and icky corpses rotting away 6ft underground. The lyrics are mainly centered around these subjects, and rarely venture outside this ready made template. Peter Tägtgren's vocals on this album are top notch, and his voice matches exceedingly well with the music behind him. Coming from Hypocrisy, he had a lot of experience with the genre, and used this experience to his full potential. // 9
Impression: Overall, I think this is an essential death metal album. The supergroup have managed to create a solid effort, an improvement on their debut album and EP. Bloodbath rival any other band in the genre, and have shown they create solid albums without a problem. There are many stand out songs on the album, and pointing them out would be a problem. The album contains a consistent flow, and each song is ear-pounding heaven. The album is great, and I can't pick any flaws. If the album were stolen, I would question the thief, and ask why they didn't steal something more valuable. I mean, he could have gotten a TV or something. But then, of course I'd buy the album again. It's essential listening for every metalhead. // 10
