Sound: From the album's slightly ridiculous title, you might have got the idea that BMTH have attempted something grand and ambitious here. You wouldn't be wrong, since the album is doused in electronic ambience, massive strings, the occasional acoustic guitar and even choirs. It's still a metal album though and metal influences brought in by new guitarist Jona Weinhofen (Ex of I Killed the Prom Queen and Bleeding Through). "There is a Hell..." is the boys' third album and following the mess that was their teenage debut "Count Your Blessings" and the vast improvement of sophomore effort "Suicide Season", it's truly do or die time for the band. Put it this way, they are not dead.
"There is a Hell" starts where Suicide Season left off and exacerbates all the positive aspects tenfold before adding a truly epic touch that makes the album positively unique. Opener "Crucify Me" is a six minute epic bolstered by a massive string sound, massive electronic voice led hooks that could catch whales and brutal guitars. Much maligned vocalist Oli Sykes and Lights' (who features both on the opener and the haunting ballad "Don't Go") interplay is a true clash between heaven and hell, with Oli's screamed hooks marrying Lights' electronic warble with beautiful effects. Ambitious though it is, it works a treat. The triple blow of the beatdown-tastic "Anthem", choir assisted lead single "It Never Ends" and the sleazy "F--k" (Featuring Josh Franceschi of British pop-punks "You Me At Six") hammer it home that BMTH are on to something here. More heavy cuts follow, with the brutal "Home Sweet Hole" and "Alligator Blood" swashbuckling their way into your brain, armed to the teeth with gang vocals, breakdowns and surprisingly memorable hooks. "Blacklist" follows on, driven by it's sleazy and effortlessly filthy riff, and doesn't drop the pace at all.
It's in their experimentation that cause BMTH to turn heads though. "Memorial's" three minutes of ambience leads seamlessly into the album's highlight "Blessed With A Curse". The 5 minute epic recalls Pink Floyd on more than one occasion, but with Sykes' pained screams giving way to the first true BMTH moment of guitar heroism from lead player Lee Malia. Simply stunning. That is not the end though. 2 minutes of pure Hardcore in the form of "The Fox and the Wolf" (Featuring Josh Scogin from The Chariot) sends the album off with more of a punch to the gut than a kiss. // 9
Lyrics and Singing: Oli Sykes divides opinion, but his work on "There Is A Hell" is a cut above anything he's done before. From the super personal ("Don't Go" and "Blessed With A Curse")to the downright fun ("F--k") his lyrics are easy to relate to (more so if you have youth on your side). It's his screamed hooks that bear the most fruit though. Alligator Blood's "Lets play a game of Russian Roulette" hook is up there with his best and the Choruses on "It Never Ends" and "Home Sweet Hole" far surpass previous efforts. His scream has gotten stronger and more intelligible too.
On more than one occasion though it's the guest vocalists that make "There Is A Hell..." what it is. There are no fewer than four guest vocalists on the album, with only Sonny Moore (A.K.A Skrillex) being neglected from mention so far. All are well judged, add to the tracks and take the album to the next level. // 9
Impression: Achievement is relative. BMTH were the laughing stock of the british metal scene no less than 2.5 years ago. That was then and this is now. "There is a Hell..." is the sound of boys becoming men. Many would agree that they were once and average band. While some people may remain convinced that they should never have had the chance to make album three, they have and there simply aren't enough superlatives. The metal world should sit up and take notice. BMTH have arrived. // 9

Sound: First of all, the sound of the album is quite different to the rest of their albums, the album has a very nice sound to it, and I would say this would be considered metalcore, not deathcore as count your blessings was.
Oli does scream in this album, but not as much as they use to, and for the record, Oli's vocal chords aren't "f--ked" I recently seen bring me the horizon live and he still can, just he chooses to sing differently, but hey that is his choice.
The us of keys and choir is really like a small thing added into songs, so it ain't like, "oh let's put techno shiz into this and say it's innovative",
One of the things I REALLY like with this album, is that they aren't doing the stereotypical metal band thing (which some naive "metal heads" think it should be like, even though metal is a large and diverse genre), they took out playing things fast and screaming, packing it together and being "hardcore" and pleasing the one view so called "metal heads", these songs have a new rhythm which is really nice, and has some nice breakdowns and heavy parts, but also added some clean so parts, which adds a nice feel to their songs, their songs actually have feeling to it, that spine tapping feeling when you hear something that is just so smooth and deep, and yes bmth are now playing so deep music which is great, they kept their heaviness and added feel to it, I think this was a much better way to go than suicide season.
The guitar, bass, and drums sound really nice in this album, and the writing of the songs is great, it has fast paced playing, and slow paced playing, breakdowns, so I think the instrument side of this is really innovative, and has a new sound to it, they are also now playing in Drop C and not Drop B like their previous albums, which I think was a nice choice. Also now the guitar has an interesting rhythm to it, and what is really different, is how they are playing a lot of high notes instead of just going with some heavy sounding ones. // 9
Lyrics and Singing: The lyrics in this album is also great, it seems like the lyrics are having a slight religious twist to them, which interesting. The words they pick seems to run smoothly with their songs as well.
Oli screams and does that yelling sound through out the album, how I see it, he isn't making every bit heavy, so you will be hearing him "yell" and then, boom, heavy scream, makes the heavy parts and the songs all more worth it how I see it. // 9
Impression: The album is very different and I haven't heard anything like it from anyone else, it has that bmth sound to it still which is great.
I love how unique this new album is, and how deep it is, and not some heavy chugs (which people say they are, but of course if they ACTUALLY listened to them, they would know this is not the case).
This band gets convicted since oli had a "scene" look when the band started out, and people who like metal are all like, oh how gay, he likes his hair. This sort of unfair judging is what causes all these stupid debates on metal, metal is MUSIC, not how people dress and look. Also I have seen Oli live, and he ain't a dick when they play live, so people are just making up things to bring down bmth's reputation.
This is a great album and is unfairly judged by second hand opinions.
Their best songs I would say are (on this album):
Visions
Blessing with a curse
It never ends
Home Sweet Hole
the rest are good aswell, but these please me the most.
I hope, one day, there won't be these "oh I hate this band cuz I saw a guy that didn't like them to, cuz I am so hardcore", people need to make their own opinions, like seriously, how un-metal to have a little cry about how the singer looks.

Sound: A band surrounded by hate. Why? I don't actually know, maybe it's their visual personna, that makes them easy target? Who knows. All I know is that is a great album, and one that is definitely in my top ten albums from last year.
I've never listen to previous BMTH material so I can't really comment on that, but this album is great. Consisting of heavy, ear pounding metal, blended in with some strong melody and abit of electro mixing.
Their single "It Never Ends" is a great song; lyrically catchy from the off and probably one of the most melodic songs on the album. While also sticking to the all out balls to the wall metal, with songs like "Alligator Blood". While the album as a whole is brilliant, it did have a couple of weak tracks. I found track 4: "F--k" to lack that little something, something. It doesn't have much of a distinct sound, and while this is a biast opinion, I felt that the "You Me At Six" singer brought the song further down. Just my own preference there, though. Overall, the tracks are heavy, catchy and well worth a listen if your a metal fan. // 8
Lyrics and Singing: Lyric writing in this album I found to be supurb, especially "Alligator Blood" and "It Never Ends". His lyrics seem to go for a personal approach, too. His vocal abilities, however, is a different story. He is good at what he does, screaming and shouting, nothing wrong with that at all, but the problem we have on this ablum is a couple of the songs are going for a softer approach, and Olie's vocal screaming doesn't quite fit. Maybe he doesn't think he's good enough to sing, and if that's the case, full respect to him to sticking to what he knows, but they shouldn't be doing softer songs if that is the case. "Don't Go" is probably the song that takes the biggest hit in the clashing department, it just sounds like a very disjointed song because of the vocals. The female singer, Lights, however, does save the song from being a total disaster, added a nice layer of melody to the track. Overall the lyrics themselves are brilliant. Very well written, but due to Ollie only have a limited amount of potential with his voice, it holds some of the tracks back. // 7
Impression: A great album! It's a metal album, but with little bits of added spice to set it apart from your generic metal album. Supurb guitar and drum work, and when Ollie sticks to what he knows the songs sore to epic proportions. This album was a massive suprise to me, as I wasn't expecting a great deal, to be honest, but the joke was on me as it was a strong album, and definitely one of the best metal albums to come out last year. It's good to see metal bands trying out different things. // 8

Sound: With each album, BMTH's sound seems to distance itself more and more from the deathcore styling of "Count Your Blessings" but this isn't exactly a bad thing. They're starting to ditch the heavy focus on breakdowns and really put some effort into the entire songs, each one being an achievement in production in its own right.
It starts off with the heavy hitter "Crucify Me", and immediately you can tell that they're going for something different here. The use of choirs, strings and synths really help to "thinken-up" their sound, without straying into the territory of bands such as Enter Shikari by really laying down heavy synth tracks, and overall, it's a welcome addition to their sound which generally acts as a kind of seasoning.
The way "Memorial" builds up into "Blessed With A Curse" really shows that they're exploring their horizons and creating more of an identity for themselves with their sound, while fans of their older work will be pleased to hear the heavier elements based in songs like "Fuck" and "Alligator Blood"
All in all, this album is like nothing they've attempted before, but it still draws inspiration from previous efforts, and I'd say they've vastly improved. // 8
Lyrics and Singing: This is a touchy area, mainly because of Oli Sykes. Lots of people hate this band purely because of him and his "Scene" style, however this is a review of the music, not his wardrobe.
Oli has definitely improved when compared to his overbearing vocals from "Count Your Blessing" and I'm thankful to see that he's taken another step forward. His lyrics have gained a lot of meaning and deeper layers, and thankfully sound much less like something from an emo kids Diary. He delivers them in a passionate and deliberate manner, and you can tell he's really matured. He's still straying away from his old screaming style, and knows when to up the ante with certain lines.
Gang vocals and guest vocalists really help to bring the lyrics and vocals out of their shell, and keep the album diverse, interesting and catchy. // 9
Impression: Now immediately, many of you will completely disregard everything I've just said purely because of this bands reputation as a "poser" metal band. So instead I simply urge you to listen to the album in its entirety just once, and you will come to recognize that this is a beast of a completely different nature when compared to their old work. They're not trying to come across as a brutal deathcore act any more, and even if you still dislike them, from a musical perspective, I think everyone will agree they've improved.
It's fair to say that this album just isn't for everyone, but in my opinion, what they've delivered is an intricate and diverse piece of work, helping to identify their sound, push away from old reputations, and produce something meaningful.
Bring Me The Horizon have ascended to a new level. I'm not saying they're a cut above every other band now, but they're certainly not in the same playing field when compared to their old work.
Again, I urge everyone to at least give it a run through in it's entirety, with a natural approach. They might just surprise you.

Sound: There Is A Hell, Believe Me I've Seen It, There Is A Heaven Lets Keep It A Secrete is the third album from Bring Me the Horizon. It is hard to say the band has taken a huge leap forward, but they certainly topped their last album. The guitars are still very heavy and drive the album all the way through. There is lots of typical Bring Me the Horizon chugging going on through this album. The problem though is that after the first few songs the guitars start to get old and sometimes even predictable. The song Blessed With A Curse is a real star on this record. It provides a nice break from the extremely heavy guitars. There are clean parts during the song that really set the mood for the whole song.
What really makes this album better than Suicide Season is the use of guest singers and the occasional "electronic synthesizer parts" i.e. Attack! Attack! The first song Crucify Me is a great example of this. It starts of nice and heavy and then transitions into a choppy choir section that leads right back into the heavy comping. The song then slows down and ends with a soft acoustic part with LIGHTS! LIGHTS pops up again in the song Don't Go. You Me At Six singer Josh Franceschi does some vocals on the song Fuck. There are some cool sing along sections through out the album that keep the listener tuned in.
Oli's voice is just as irritatingly enjoyable as on the last record. There is a subtle lisp that comes out in his singing. The drums do a nice job of keeping the music in balance. The bass is sometimes lost between everything that is musically going on. The production on the CD is very well done. // 9
Lyrics and Singing: There is nothing lyrically revolutionary about There Is A Hell Believe Me I've Seen It. Oliver does do a good job of getting the message out that he has changed his life around. The typical Rock N' Roll themes of sex, love, and loneliness are evident. Nothing too impressive lyrically.
Something that will probably irk the listener is a lack of singing. TIAHBISITIAHLKAS could really be something special if Oli sang on some parts as opposed to screaming. // 7
Impression: It took a few listens to get through the whole album in one try. It starts out really strong with the first 5-6 songs but gets a tiny bit stale during the ladder half of the record. I would recommend this album to any one who never heard Bring Me the Horizon before. It definitely tops Suicide Season and is the bands best record yet. Despite a strong performance, if you were looking for something revolutionary from Bring Me the Horizon then you might have to wait for a future record. // 9

Sound: Oliver Sykes is one of the biggest douches in music, period.
Now that that's out of the way, let's discuss this record. There Is A Hell, Believe Me I've Seen It. There Is A Heaven Let's Keep It A Secret is really long to type out in my review multiple times, so I shall refer to the album as Bob from now on. The first thing you notice when you purchase the album is the album artwork, it's some pretty interesting stuff and the booklet folds out nicely. I was somewhat impressed by it as I took the CD out and popped it into my car stereo, and we're off! The album opens with a clean guitar diddly, which then progresses into Crucify Me. Overall, this song is pretty good but I don't feel like it should have been the opener to the album because after CM, the album throws you into Anthem, which is just a good ole' down and dirty breakdown fest. The CD puts you in a euphoric mood and then throws you up against the wall, not the smoothest of transitions. The outro to Anthem gives me some chills, and then leads into It Never Ends, which is probably BMTH's best song to date, yet sadly the last heavy melodic song on the CD. It's a real bummer because they seem to do the orchestra-and-metalcore thing quite well but abandon it less than halfway through the CD. F*ck is rather unmemorable. Don't Go is very sweet, with Lights singing melodies everywhere. The rest of the songs are just breakdown after breakdown with the exception of two: Memorial which is an instrumental, and Blessed With A Curse which is a weird spacey electronica thing. There's only one song you desperately need to avoid on this album, and that would be Blacklist. It tries entirely too hard to be brutal and menacing, but it's main riff just feels like it wanders to nowhere, and it has an extremely crappy solo. // 7
Lyrics and Singing: Oli is Oli, so you know what to expect. The only thing I really have to say about him is that he sounds exactly the same as he did on Suicide Season, but his lows are surprisingly much better on this record as well as being coherent, but that's more of a production thing than a vocalist getting better type deal. The guest appearances are nice, but short lived, and I honestly can't tell Scogin apart from Sykes in the last track, so there's no point there. // 5
Impression: Overall, this album was something fresh and exciting from the band, but nothing too new to the genre itself. The addition of Lights, strings, electronics and an orchestra are all very nice, but sadly BMTH didn't really work with any of those elements enough to separate them from the pack. I thoroughly enjoy this band and everything it's ever released, but I'll probably only be spinning this for a couple weeks before it just goes on as another CD in my car player. // 6

Sound: For a deathcore-turned-metalcore band, some of the riffs aren't that bad. Sure, you've heard them a thousand times before, but they are delivered with some precision here, especially on "Anthem". "Home Sweet Hole" has a punk rock feel to it, while "Alligator Blood" reminds me of something Hellyeah would come up with. "Visions" and "Blacklist" have a nice groove to it as well, and "Fox And The Wolf" reminds me of Cancer Bats (incidentally friends of BMtH as well).
I commend the guitar work on this album, even if it's the same old stuff you've heard from the same metalcore bands before. Jona Weinhofen (I Killed The Prom Queen, Bleeding Through) brings a new sense of aggression for the band. For the most part, however, the album is two guitars taking a back seat to the electronica influences on this album. The drums do their job in keeping the rhythm, and the bass-- wait, was there even bass on this album?
Regarding the electronics used on this album, they make Bring Me the Horizon sound like a band who's just experimenting for the sake of experimenting. When Lights sings on "Crucify Me", the electronica sounds annoying, I actually like hearing vocal passages being completed without interruption. It doesn't get much better on "Blacklist", but it's not overly terrible.
Admittedly, the best song on this record is the instrumental "Memorial", and it's not just because it lacks Oli Sykes (more on that later). There is a certain ambience that seems to recall Underoath here, and it serves as an interlude for introspection which I can dig. // 6
Lyrics and Singing: Whoever told Oli Sykes he was a great "singer" and "lyricist" needs to be dressed up as a pinata, hung upside down by their ankles, and fed to a bunch of hyperactive six year olds. His vocals reminds me of Underoath's Spencer Chamberlain if he stopped trying and was just going through the motions. The intro of "Don't Go" was going fine until that moron ruined it with his "I'M A GLASS CASE OF EMOTION" 'vocals'. The best singer on this album is Josh Scogin of The Chariot on "Fox And The Wolf", but that's not really saying much.
For every good lyric on this album, there's at least three more dragging down the quality. Lyrics such as the ones found on "Alligator Blood" ("Let's play a game of Russian roulette, I'll load the gun, you place the bets. Tell me, who will make it out alive.") and "Anthem" ("This is an anthem, so f**king sing. A dedication to the end of everything.") reek of cliche, and the ones that are good are repeated to the point where it becomes tedious (the album title being repeated over and over in "Crucify Me"). And don't get me started on "F**k". Good lord.
I think this band would be a lot better without Oli Sykes, he hurts this band musically more than he helps it. If BMTH got someone who could actually scream and write decent lyrics, Oli could probably just appear in promo shots only just to keep his fans happy. But that's just my opinion. // 2
Impression: All in all, I felt really underwhelmed by what this album had to offer. The music is good, but the album is ultimately brought down by cliches, irritating vocals, and a sense of trying too hard. If you're a diehard fan of the band, that's great, each to their own. But if you're looking for something dynamic from a metalcore band, Bring Me The Horizon's latest effort is not one you should be looking into. There is a band, believe me I've heard it. They have a singer, they should keep it a secret. // 4

Sound: The time that I really started to notice BMTH’s clime in popularity was around five to six months after they released Suicide Season. I have known about them since day one, but I didn’t truly get into them until about early summer in 2009. I currently own all of their albums on CD except for this one. In Count Your Blessings, BMTH was very creative, and was amazing in the area of technicality, musicianship, and tempo. The guitar solos were a bit primitive, but hey, no one’s perfect. Suicide Season somewhat lacked in the musicianship area. But the band was so creative it blew me away. I also noticed that they started drifting towards metalcore a little bit in that album. Two of the songs were pure metalcore.
Now, in their third full length album, they have dropped majorly in musicianship and technicality (except for the drummer, who has gotten much better), they aren’t all that tight anymore, and they aren’t very creative at all. Oliver has officially f--ked himself over. He screamed the wrong way, and the yelling thing he does is slightly damaging to his throat. So now, all he does is that yelling thing (which is cool, but it gets old really fast). He does growl a line or two in every other song or so. There are two types of songs on this record. There are the really fast, driving (and sometimes) heavy metalcore sounding songs, which I actually like, most of them aren’t that bad. But the problem is, is that they all basically sound the same. The other songs are more of a soft, really melodic metalcore sounding songs, which annoy me. They have no creativity, and yelling doesn’t sound good with soft music. I would also like to note that the album cover is one of the worst covers I have ever seen. It’s just too weird. // 6
Lyrics and Singing: I am only going to talk about the songs that stuck out to me in some way. The first song is a longer than normal song. It’s one of the softer songs, with a few driving parts with the really high pitched melodic trembolo picking that the guitarist likes to do. Then, at the second half of the song, this annoying girl’s voice comes in all digitized (in a very disturbing way) and ruins the whole song. My favorite song off of the record would probably have to be Anthem. The guitars are very simple and not very creative, but the drumming is amazing. This is a song that I would mosh too, and there is some screaming and growling in the song to put the icing on the cupcake. Blacklist is a fairly ok song that has quite a bit of growling in it, and is a good song for the headbangers, but the song is pretty repetitive, and the tempo doesn’t change very much. The song Fuck is stupid. There is no creativity or tempo that I know of. But the lyrics are friggen hilarious. // 5
Impression: So overall, the album is pretty crappy for a band like BMTH. The drummer though has improved greatly, so I’ll give the thumbs up on that. I am a diehard BMTH fan, and I’m majorly disappointed with this release. For all you metalcore fans out there, it wouldn’t hurt to give this album a try, some of you out there might like it. // 6
As with Suicide Season, I liked this album. But within the next few weeks, I'm inevitably going to get tired of it. But I doubt most of the flamers that'll come here will even listen to the album. It IS a vast improvement from their last album, with several solid tracks. Can't say I'm that crazy about this album, but it could be way worse.
This band is a just a bunch of kids with low tuned guitars hammering out open chugs and breakdowns. I don't think I would ever spend money on such nonsense! No real musicianship here.

Works for Meshuggah. *inb4OMG THEY USE FUCCCCCKED TIMINGS YOU NUUUUUB*
But meshuggah do a lot more tastefully then BMTH. BMTH is pure scene music.
first album cant be beat the scream was unique and the riffs while seemingly generic they were there own sound which made it a solid album. suicide season simply put he sounds shit why did he change his style? maybe his throat just ****ed up but now its almost hard to listen to. this album so far isnt too much different a few songs that are enjoyable but probably wont listen to this one much after a few weeks.
Judging by the comments such as "just a bunch of kids with downtuned guitars, open chugs and breakdowns" and "scene music" then i can tell straight away that you haven't even listened to them.
Count Your Blessings was a poor album but if you say Suicide Season and There is a Hell... are just chuggy breakdowns and scene music you are just jumping on the "oh its cool to not like BMTH" bandwagon.
I've seen them twice this year and they have become unstopable, they are not the kids they used to be.

There is a Hell... is also the most innovative and far out album of 2010.
As much as I like talking to you sometimes.. lets leave it at that, cuz you obviously haven't listened to Enslaved's new album, which is the alternative to effing Opeth if you cant wait for an album (I know I cant..).
personally i was more then ready to write off this album as a failure after listening to it once. but after a few more plays i realized there were some really good tracks on it. i think Suicide Season was a better album as a whole but this one isn't too bad

I just tried listening to it too, it couldn't be all that bad... but what the hell? I couldn't find any coherence within the songs, either from one part to the next or even between the instruments in one part, and the vocalist is probably one of the worst I've ever heard. I had to STRUGGLE to make it through Crucify Me, pretty awful. And so-called highlight Blessed With A Curse ("5 minute epic"?) would have benefited greatly from an actual singer--it would sound like almost any generic metalcore song.
I'd really like to know what it is that makes people think BMTH is anything special/what limits they are pushing.
This band is a just a bunch of kids with low tuned guitars hammering out open chugs and breakdowns. I don't think I would ever spend money on such nonsense! No real musicianship here.
You haven't listened to it. You might be surprised.
Nope, even 3 songs in and its still the shit that people called Katy Kuntz and Adam Assface listen to.

I've been trying to decipher that one for years now and nope...still has me stumped lol
If they stuck to there material from there first album, they would be epic for what they did, but there like a hardcore band now. I like hardcore bands and I like how they have changed, but not the fact they changed. Wouldn't mind if this was another band. Medusa FTW
The opening riff of 'The Comedown' (1st track from suicide season) made me realise how awesome this band is. Definately gonna check this out! I really like how the singer sounds like he's not screaming but just talking really loud
Ridiculous album title, but a really good album if you're into hardcore with very chuggy riffs! The electro vibe this album has going on is in my opinion brilliant! I think it's unfair to slate the band without listening to this album!
i was actually pretty impressed by this album, bmth have really got a lot of good things going for them, and i'd love to see them in concert sometime soon.
In the current Metal Hammer they did a pretty interesting article on how it is cool to hate BMTH.
Anywhozle they played BMTH tracks to "Tr00 MEtaLZZ" people like Opeth, Devin Townsend, Obituary, Gojira, Alexi from CoB. ALL of them were like "Oh this is actually really good who is this" then Hammer tells this its BMTH everyone just sort of said "Oh" except Alexi and some Fear Factory guy who said he didn't like it anymore.
This is NOT an improvement on the last album. Last album was charged with emotion and the hate and sadness really came through unbelievably well. But this time they've added some ****ed up electronics, strings (which would sound good but this is not bmth's area, so they've ****ed it up), and pointless songs such as "memorial" which is just three chrds repeated over and over. Listen to memorial by bmth, then "small blessings" by ghost of a thousand. Whit GOAT it has so much more impact because it's an emotional piece, but memorial is just a ****ed up add on which summarises the whole album. On suicide season, they ended with "suicide season" which is nothing short of an epic metal song which is just amazingly emotional and heavy. Wth this album they finished with a two minute song which is just noise. A ****ing embarassment.
And trust im not saying this because I'm a hater.... I would have sucked Oli Sykes off as much as the next straight bmth fan boy after the last album. But after this... Fuck that. :L

I don't see why people are bashing on the musical aspect that much ...
I can understand you don't like the girlish looks and the gayness, but the musical part of it (except for the vocals maybe) are not bad.
I once also had this "Who is this?" "BMTH" situation where I was like "Really ?, that sounds nice".
I have always disliked core for a lot of reasons and sticked with "real" Deathmetal, but some of the stuff these guys do nowadays (including Carnifex, Parkway Drive and Annotations of an Autopsy) surpasses some of the well known Death Metal acts, although theyll probably never reach the awesomeness of Malevolent Creation or Decapitated for example.
Just be a little more open and ignore the scene guys, I thought thats what metal was about in the first place :o.
Listening to an album of this and liking it doesn't mean we'll all have to cut our hair wierd and start getting vegetarian tatooed up pussies.
BMTH sucks now. they got worse and worse with every album. count ur blessings wus pretty nice. then suicide season, the music SUCKED but i liked the lyrics and vocals. and this album i just think kinda sux.
A rating of nine? Seriously? That's quite hilarious, to be perfectly honest.
I think you'll find it unanimously has ratings like that. Believe me, I hated CYB and I only liked 2 songs from Suicide Season but I love this. It's subjective anyway.
A rating of nine? Seriously? That's quite hilarious, to be perfectly honest.
Well here is UG users' usual rating scale:
10- I am 12 or this is Blackwater Park
9 - I just got it/am listening to it now
8 - I only listened to it once but I want to be one of the first reviews
7 - Actual review but everyone will flame me for being a hater
The other numbers just don't exist.
i think this record is ****in amazing.
bmth was the band that brought me to the desicioun that i wont judge any band by their look again in my life. i love their music, this record is again ****in awesome. less breakdowns more melody. suicide season was the same niveau with more breakdowns. the 2 records are great i think.
BMTH is pure scene music.
agreed, for some who really havent explored what REAL metal is.
People need to start listening to music before rating -.-
Yes I agree, BMTH's first 2 albums were mediocre at best, but this album actually shows some hope!
Definitely deserves better than a 5.3 rating..
I love when nobodies trash successful bands who tried something new and are only getting better. Sure, sit here and post your trash talk. They're selling, touring, getting paid, laid, and making a name for themselves. So please..keep talking crap as they get bigger. It only goes to show how actions speak louder than words.
can sum1 who is not a fanboy or hater of this band tel me if there anygood:S?
I'll tell you as soon as I've listened to it.
Okay, at first glance I can see why so many people may hate this band, but honestly there's some good stuff on here. If you don't mind some hardcore punk vocals and sometimes generic modern melodic hardcore arrangements, this is a pretty decent album.
I'm not about to put it on any "top 10 of 2010" lists though.
I've never heard such a bunch of moronic, ridiculous and downright idiotic "opinions" from people in my life. The album (for anyone not narrow minded enough to dismiss it immediately because it isn't full of self-indulgent guitar solo's or because the people in the band have more musical talent than half of the people flaming in here) is very good. It's different, full of fresh sounds and different production work which is what metal needs in my opinion as lately it all feels very "I've heard all this before". The electonic work is exceptional, changes the feel of the songs enough whilst allowing the heavier elements to contrast more and stand-out, so it doesn't feel like you're listening to yet another album of straight-forward heavy metal. As far as an album goes, its got a hell of a lot more longetivity than most efforts I've heard recently ("Constellations" by August Burns Red instantly springs to mind, never been so turned off by an album in all my life). If you're interested in hearing a fresh take on melodic metal that has a wide-ranging appeal then give this a listen. If you're a twelve year-old who doesn't listen to the band before giving an informed opinion, steer well clear. Odds are their haircuts will offend you and hey, that defines the quality of the music, right?
And really, they're not the "cancer that's killing metal" that most of you say they are. At worst, maybe the poison ivy giving metal a bit of a rash that'll go away in a few days.
can sum1 who is not a fanboy or hater of this band tel me if there anygood:S?
i am neither. this album isnt bad, but i kinda got tired of it. i think they are alrite, but thats because im not stuck on the fact that they are kinda girly. they arnt "real" metal in the sense that they arnt nile or carcass or morbid angel or anything of those lines, but they still make kinda neat songs that hold my interest for a bit. buy it if you need a more emotional less brutal album, but dont expect obituary.
When I first heard this band I was like "oh neat."
Then I realized quickly after the second listen that
it seems like they take five songs chop it up and try to pull it off like it's a coherent thought, but it truly comes off poorly executed and hard to listen to. Many modern bands need to learn a bit more about song construction the stop and go, riff, stop, riff stop style needs to change. Songs should sound like a song, not a mish mash of garbage.
Lame metal, this stuff all sounds the same, trying to imitate what Pantera did and what Lamb of God do best.
Well that's the problem with modern metal, when they talk about heroes they only talk about other metal bands. To truly expand as a musician you need to stop listening to one band and imitating, but clearly that's not happening, everyone is trying to out brutal the last.. OH MAN!! SYNCOPATED OPEN DROP C CHUGGING TO A HALF TIME BEAT!!!! BR00000T4LLLLL!!!! I mean that breakdown was heavier than all that ever was. Things need to change, also the screaming, growling, and pig squeals? Seriously? what happened to singing?
I don't care anymore. Cause they won't stand the test of time.Even MC Hammer stood the test of time.
mc hammer didnt stand the test of time, have u heard of him other then the a cameo to do with cant touch this?, i only hope they stand the test of time like mc hammer it means i have a bright future to look forward to in metal.
but yeh go report everyone that doesn't like this album it will help you fan boys think your the majority instead of the ball and chain that keep pull metal backwards
To everyone slagging off BMTH, please, do yourself a favour. Listen to the Title track off Suicide Season - yeah, sit through 8 minutes and 20 of pure brilliance. That song is so charged with emotion, and is pure hardcore music at its very best. These guys came through with Suicide Season, and I'm very excited to check out this new album. Approach everything with an open mind people, don't just go into it thinking "oh, BMTH (or BFMV, or whoever else)" Look at it and think, "Oh, a new BMTH title. I'll see what that's like BEFORE I make up my mind and start ripping on them". Jeez.
Seems like a lot of you jits are trashing this band. There only reasons I really disliked this band was because they were heavy (which was good) and turned all lame on Suicide Season. Another reason I dislike this band is because the band's fans are mainly girls haha
for some who really havent explored what REAL metal is.
Sorry, but REAL metal is any form of Heavy Metal. Heck, you can divide it into chunks and add tiny little prefixes and suffixes... but when you get down to it, it's all REAL metal. Just different in its own way. That said, Symphony X are nothing like these guys, but they're both REAL metal bands. "Oh, Hardcore isn't metal" is about as good an argument as "My dog has four legs, my cat has four legs, therefore my dog is a cat"
Well I thought Count Your Blessings was a really fun album with some pretty good guitar work. Suicide Season was mostly boring. Need to listen to this album still.
There is a Hell... is also the most innovative and far out album of 2010.
Ihsahn - After
If "After" is the single most innovative thing to happen to music in 2010, then I'm the goddamn president.
Barack!? Is that you!?
Fuck yeah.
But seriously, as much as I love "After", it certainly isn't trendsetting or innovative. It's not reinventing the wheel by any measure. Ihsahn's not the first metal musician to play an eight string guitar, or use sax solos, or use ambient chord progressions and vocal harmonies. I'm not turning this around saying BMTH is innovative, either, quite the contrary, but my point is that good =/= innovative. Nor is it vice versa.
I don't care anymore. Cause they won't stand the test of time.Even MC Hammer stood the test of time.

My point was everyone still knows his name, and everyone still loves that song. Only, BMTH are much more known for more than one song. Think of it this way, it's like modern day hair metal. So many hate on it now but in the future people will look back on it the way kids today look back at KISS, Motley Crue, and whatever.
And before anyone tries to flame me for saying "lol omgz no kiss n mtly crue were way mor talented", remember, it's relative and subjective. Of course BMTH will never be as well known as those two bands. But it's the same style of teenage deviance that attracts kids to bands like this.
this is my first real exposure to this band. I've heard OF them but never really heard them. I like what they're trying to do. Not perfect by any means but still good though. I youtubed some of their older stuff and their style has changed quite a bit, but the new stuff is appealing to me.
jetfuel495 wrote:

And that attracted kids to bands like Motley Crue and Kiss and whatever in the first place.
People seem to forget that most of their parents' favourite bands were likely the same way when they were kids: people found them fun to hate because they were popular and I guess whatever people called "scene" in the 70s and 80s.
Only today we live in a much more musically open environment full of people who would die for their precious independent and progressive bands (and I'm not slagging these people. I love indie and prog to death), and there are even more people nowadays who like to rag on things for simply being popular.
So yeah, tl;dr, I agree with you for the most part.
Is someone removing my comments? Jet fuueeeeelllll
If they break the rules, they gotta go

Word. It's an easy concept but no one understands it.
The thing is, BMTH sound completely different to everyone else, they are one of the bands that bands like Escape the Fate look at and copy their sound.
So many pathetic reasons why people don't like this band. If you have negative feelings towards them and go listen to them, you're not going to like it because you're not wanting to like it and not truly giving them a chance.
Ehhh i don't care, seeing them live at Sonisphere changed my opinion of them and the music made more sense. So i went and saw them again and the new stuff sounded amazing.
I got a friend at college into them, who's favourite bands include Mayhem, Bathory and Deicide.. He loves them now, and the only reason he didn't like them before was because of their image (which is nothing compared to some other bands). Close minded elitist fools. I think you just feel threatened that this "scene" band can produce such high quality music and lyrics. With the exception of Count Your Blessings which was awful. #rant
("Constellations" by August Burns Red instantly springs to mind, never been so turned off by an album in all my life)
Are you effing kidding me? Constellations was easily one of the best metal releases of 2009.
In your opinion, to me it just sounded like "Messengers" part two, which itself was boring. They have a few good songs per album and then they repeat the formula of those songs over and over. Don't get me wrong, I love a melody line over syncopated guitar/bass/drum work with screaming over the top but after 5 songs worth I need something a little different. Technically they're good, if you're talking about their imagination though they're severly lacking and its all a bit one-dimensional. Something you can't really accuse "There Is A Hell, Believe Me I've Seen It..." of being. So, in answer to your question I'm not kidding you and as for "one of the best metal releases of 2009" I really don't think you could put "COnstellations" in the same category as "Crack The Skye" by Mastodon or "The Great Misdirect" by Between The Buried and Me.
can sum1 who is not a fanboy or hater of this band tel me if there anygood:S?
Listen I've heard alllll the haters and allll the fanboys and girls and well the way I usually judge a band is if they can match or surpass whay they produce in the studio live in concert. They were one of the bands my friend wanted to see at Warped this year and since I had heard some of CYB and Suicide Season I thought they were worth a try at least. (I was there to see Dillinger Escape Plan (got to meet every one of them, they're fu cking awesome!), Every Time I Die, Whitechapel, and Suicide Silence) They opened up with Diamonds Aren't Forever and it just sounded EPIC. I was blown away. By the time they played Pray for Plagues I was in the circle pit destroying shit! (look up on YouTube BMTH Noblesville, IN Warped 2010 circle pit, I'm in it lol) Trust me, after seeing them live I was hooked. And I'm a guy that has seen ACDC, Metallica, Lamb of God TWICE (met Will Adler and shook Randy's hand) Converge, Between the Buried and Me, Gojira, Atreyu, All That Remains, and Iron Maiden. I was really impressed and I think the critics just jump on the "it's cool to hate on BMTH" bandwagon. I'm just listening to this album and I can tell you right now that I couldn't believe this was BMTH upon first listen. Trust me, you won't be disappointed. Btw another band that blew me away at Warped this year was Parkway Drive. Off subject I know but dammmnnnnn they are fun to listen to while punching hardcore dancing scenies in the face lol. And hey you hate em, fine hate em but just so you know I'm a real metalhead not some scene kid. Btw I only have a few more bands I wanna see before I die lol Mastodon, Dream Theater, Rush, and Opeth. After that, I can die happy lol. Maybe they can all tour together?
A rating of nine? Seriously? That's quite hilarious, to be perfectly honest.

Very few reviewers here grasp the concept.
I'd been playing this for over a week before I bought it. It was on their myspace for that long so anyone could have listened to it and typed the review up. I have read some of my older writings for this site and they were similar to how you describe. I gave Libertad by VR a 9? WTF? I was a special kid.
The point is that things should be judged straight away. Time affects things. That's the difference between a good album and classic. Good albums fade. Classics stay with you. I have at no point said this is a classic. Just saying. It's just a very good album from a very bad band. People here are missing the point a bit. It's RELATIVE. Compared to CYB this is amazing. Compared to Master of Puppets (actually a little overrated. RTL is better) this sucks. That's not the point. You can only compare to what's there now and compared to that this is better than most people are giving it credit for.

I've given them multiple chances right from the start. I've been listening to the new album and first thing I heard was rehashing of From Autumn To Ashes riffs from their final studio album, add in some Atreyu styled gang vocals (I know other bands do it too, but it's pretty prominent), add a bit of Abandon All Ships and you got youself the new BMTH album. I mean it sounds okay, but it just sounds 23rd rate.
I'm not fully hating on them, I mean I can listen to their music without cringing or having to leave the room. It's just there are other bands I'd rather listen to, bands that musically and lyrically hit home. If a band is gonna sound like a FATA knock off with some other elements I'd rather listen to FATA is all I'm saying.
There is a Hell... is also the most innovative and far out album of 2010.

True, I didn't really know how long you'd listened to it, just saying that almost every album here (not necessarily this one) gets a numerical rating far higher than it actually deserves. What's more important to me in a review than the raw number is if the writing itself conveys whether the album is worth a listen and you did a good job with that.
Still think the band is just average musically, and I just can't tolerate the vocals.
Oh and I totally prefer AJFA... haha

I saw Mastodon in Chicago on their Crack the Skye tour! Never left the pit, never been more exhausted in my life. They're even making a DVD of that show! With you on Opeth.
Also, I'm thinking the most innovative thing I've heard this year is Asleep Next to Science by ORBS.

Say ABR cuz they were opening for UnderOath and i wanted to slit my throat, they were terrible. The music is amateurish and with a bit of practice i could play any of it. I saw no ingenuity in anything of theirs. It was just straight up technical shit and not even good technical shit. But to BMTH. No matter what, you have to say there is nothing like this around. I personally like it but i can clearly see how people couldn't. What i like the most is that it sounds like they're playing what they want to instead of any metal formula much like the aforementioned. ABR does. BMTH may not be OMGGG THE BEST BAND EVERRR, but they're interesting and i will be taking a few of their ideas for my own stuff. I quite liked how they included electronics without making it horrible dance-pop over drop-d breakdowns. I did feel the riffs were suffering a bit technically and found myself wondering where the talent they showed on CYB went. Didn't enjoy that album too much, but it makes for a great warmup and i wish they could incorporate some of that into this.
has it ever occurred to anyone that maybe they weren't trying to make a true metal album? I'm so sick of seeing comments like "this isn't metal, its -core so it has to be shit". Maybe this is the kind of music they enjoy making? I'm actually pretty sure that's why they do it. So they like to Chug away on drop z-tuned guitars (which Meshuggah does, albeit with fuuuuucked up timing..but still...) and put electronics in their songs and feature pop punk singers and use a paragraph for an album title. Whatever. Before suicide season, i loved to hate BMTH as much as anyone else. They were so juvenile and generic it was painful. Suicide season redeemed them, slightly in my eyes. This album seals the deal. They actually seem to have moved somewhere musically. They're not technical, nor do they claim to be. They're not "METUUUULLLLLZZZZ" enough to play along such bands as Metallica and slayer (the quintessential metal bands) but why would they want to when they're already selling out arenas? Listen to this album carefully...i am not hearing anybody doing this groove-laden, alternative hardcore thing. Wanna know what made Metallica and Slayer, Anthrax and Maiden so popular? It was the fact that they were doing stuff that was different from what people were doing at the time. BMTH has breathed some freshness into the stale genre with this album, kudos to them from breaking away from the As Blood Runs Black and August Burns Red syndrome.
bands change wether we like it or not if its not to your liking doesnt mean its shit we all know this there musicians if you think its bad your entitled to your opinion but at the end of the day musics music no matter what you think its either them actually expressing themselves or tryen to make money of someone elses sound whether or not that is incidental. this is a great discussion btw but stop talking about genres they are pointless!!!!
LOL can't take Rob Halford's view on bmth seriously now :p
the band aren't the greatest thing, they're not doing anything new but the first half of this album is alright...still not that memorable though.
So much writing it's like GAHHHH. I read most of the convo and a few reviews and as much as my opinion is as useless as everyone elses because at the end of the day the band is richer and more famous then us and if your on this site chances are your trying to to get some form of recognition for your talent I'm going to share a bit anyway. I like the album, I'm not keen on Oli at all, from what I've heard he's an idiot but fame gets to everyone... even PWD as much as it breaks my heart to admit, but i still like it. I like the direction they're taking. And I CBF quoting anything the convo is just too frikin big but I'm going to address a couple of the main issues that I noticed throughout the whole of this page.
1. It isn't real metal. No, it isn't the stereotypical chug, riff, chug, solo, riff, outro (Ok its not like that but you know what I'm saying so don't flame) but then again what we call real metal isn't anything like the original 'metal' which I can't stand to listen to. Not flaming it, it's just not my thing. It's heavy, that cannot be denied, it's catchy as hell in some places and i think the first few songs should be categorised as 'Party Metal' because when I listen to it that's what I want to do, party and party hard. I think it's great that it's boppy and electronic because I do like to listen to that type of music and to here it in a heavy format is just great. I will write a review later to fully address the album but it's late here so I'm just generalising.
2. The band cops a lot of flack from haters who have barely heard the music anyway and have judged them for their image. Hell if i judged every band I listened to for their image my playlist would be a lot smaller then it is now. I.E. I sure as hell don't feel like cutting up women as TIAM lyrics seem to suggest but the music is enjoyable nontheless. Not the best example because I'm not an overly huge fan but you can see my point. I doubt any of you really support a lot of what is said in lyrics and represented by bands these days. Just look at COF.
Anyway before anyone flames me for anything ignorant I may have said remember that this is just a quick general comment with a few examples that I use due to my own tastes and understandings. As it has been stated again and again, its all relative. It always will be. I like the album, they did a good job of changing direction from CYB and developing what they tried in SS. Also remember, they have Jonas in the band, he's played for two of the greatest modern metal bands, they can't be that bad.Pluse he's Australian and he used to play basketball in my home town so yeah I'm a tad bias.
Seriously guys? This was a great album! So if you didn't like their previous albums, who cares? This album was awesome, and I really enjoyed their new sound
Count Your Blessings was a brilliant album. D:
'15 Fathoms, Counting', anyone?
that song is amazing.
and i like the new album, i dont see why everyones saying they suck... i can guarantee the people who say that, haven't listened to more than 3 songs. I used to be like them saying they're scene kids with no talent, but i gave them a chance and guess what? One of my favorite bands now..
open minded would be nice... just to put aside your feelings towards certain members of the band and FOCUS ON THE MUSIC THEY MAKE. Yeah if you havnt guessed i love the album mainly the first half of it
I dont understand why people get on here just to talk shit about other bands. If you dont like them, why dont you get off their articles and get a life?
i love count your blessings and suicide season. they were better instrumentally in CTB and suicide season was mainly an open e string on drop A (except for the last 3 songs)but this album went back to doing better instrumetals. for example it never ends, crucify me. F##ck (which hasa a solo) crucify me, and both dont go and blessed with a curse. which are 2 songs played on clean. i like this album. it has better instrumental then suicide season, but not better than count your blessings.

I haven't liked this band much since Count Your Blessings. Suicide Season was pretty good at first but got really old really fast. Oliver Sykes' yelling or whatever it is that he does now in the place of screaming gets realy annoying. I've always really liked his lows. It kind of sucks that he barely does them now. I haven't actually taken the time to listen to this entire album yet, but a friend showed me 'Crucify Me', and though I have a feeling it would be like Suicide Season in the sense that it would get old pretty fast, I will admit I was pretty impressed. The instruments don't seem as creative, but I did like the girl singing in it. It stuck out quite a bit and made it a bit more memorable.
I have to say I completely agree with you. I think this Album was incredibly delicious. They are definitely improving. All these people down talk bands but no matter how someone can down talk a band it's going to happen anyway. I'm sure BMTH doesn't GIVE A SH**! BMTH IS AMAZING!
What Alaska did for BTBAM, Horizons did for Parkway Drive, I dunno what other example I can use...but what those albums did for those bands, did for Bring Me The Horizon right here. They found their sound, and the perfected. They grey into musicians with this album, and of course all the tough guy, death metal loving, anti-BMTH people out there are gonna automatically write it off and then immediately proceed to bash it in forums like this. This album is amazing. There's nothing wrong with harmony tough guys. It sounds a lot better than the music you're comparing Bring Me The Horizon to. Take the time you spend bashing this band, and actually listen to them and you will find yourself to be a closed minded person who regretted not giving BMTH a chance earlier on. They were terrible prior, I'll give you that. But they grey into musicians on this album, it's a lot more mature. See for yourself, I'm just so sick of hearing this band get bashed by you tough guy chug chug chug death metal cattle decapitation loving people out there. Who cares if it's not "real metal"? What is "real metal" in the first place? That's why there's different genres, because BMTH is not going to sound like brutal death metal, it's its own thing. Give it a chance to all of you nay sayers. That's all I'm tryna convey to you.

dude ur absolutely right. i mean come on this album has shown a lot more progress and matureness than the first 2 albums. this band has found their sound and i think this albums amazing. i love all their albums but this album shows its creativity. going from heavy songs like alligator blood to soft songs like blessing with a curse. this sound is amazing. and for you guys who complain about oli and that he cant sing. hes trying a different type of singing. half screaming/ half yelling. hes doing that so that fans who want to sing along dont have to scream it. if you hate this band and the album. LEAVE! nobody wants you here to hear about you complain about this band.
Good album, took me by surprise, I think they improve vastly every record they make.
I love reading comments on this website, I've never read a review where EVERYONE liked the subject, but if you don't like it, don't listen to it, instead of complaining about it on a website.
I hate Oli Sykes, and I hate how corporate the band and it's members have always been. However, things get big for a reason. In my opinion, every album BMTH has released is fantastic, and they've deffinatly got better and more creative with each release I listen to Opeth, Slayer, Gorgoroth, and a host of other 'r34l br00tal m3t4l', and I can easily say that TIAHBMISITIAHLKIAS is one of the finest albums released in quite some time. That is all
It's so weird, when a band sticks to its original sound in all albums, people critize tht they suck, are boring, are out of ideas etc, and when they come up with something new, different, not sounding like 'metals' every one gonna critize new album telling that they were good then but now (except for some cases)
BMTH were the laughing stock of the british metal scene no less than 2.5 years ago. That was then and this is now
.
bullet for my valentine had critics say they would never succeed and that they were crap, look at them now, crucify me is the only song iv heard from these guys and i like it
