Even if the occasional riff sounds like an old wave group, the simple fact is that hardly any new wave band made records this consistently rocking and melodic.

Sound: This was the first offering from the britpop quartet and was one of the great albums of the '90s. With influences from her early days as a member of Suede, Justine uses simple lyrics and melodies and creates 15 great songs. The major influences on this album are early punk bands such as Sousie Sioux and early Britpop bands such as Blur. This album manages to capture the essence of being british and with each song being so short the album is to the point. 'Connection' is the major single from this album and links catchy beats with simple lyrics to create a two minute gem. // 8

Lyrics: The lyrics on this album are much to do about sex and femanist issues. The lyrics are kept very simple with rhyming making the songs light hearted and catchy. Justine's voice on the album is very british much like her ex partner Brett Anderson of Suede. Her voice is very simple throughout the album with the songs concentrating on sound rather than voice. // 8

Overall Impression: This album from start to finish is fantastic. It captures the magic of a cheap night out drinking cider and eating a Kebab. The album is very British and songs like '2:1', 'Line Up' and 'Connection' are masterpieces from start to finish. The most impressive thing about this album is its simplicity and Justine has proved that she isn't just a useless women in the backgroung from her Suede days. If I lost this album I would certainly buy it again. Classic! // 10
