Sound: Black metal and doom metal are very different form each other, black is fast, abrasive and more extreme than doom which is slow and heavier than black. The two are worlds apart, but if you mix them correctly you will get a skull crusher and that is Forgotten Tomb does. Springtime Depression is one of the bleakest sounding album out there, there is not a moment in which the sound gets any less depressing. It is bleak, black, miserable, depressing, all that with out coming close to gothic, it at times resembles early Katatonia but overall Springtime Depression and Forgotten Tomb are unique. Instrumental wise the album is more doom than black, though there are few double bass drum sections which are more inherent form black. // 9

Lyrics: The vocals are black metal shrieks, they are very strong and give a lot of the vibe that Springtime Depression has, I like the vocals, they sound much like the early Norwegian black metal stuff form the 90s. The lyrics are one sided, depression and (self)isolation is the main themes but then again they go well with the music so it's all neatly wrapped into a package. // 8

Overall Impression: Well much like all black/blackened bands and albums this will suit fans of black metal more so than others, if you don't like black metal then you won't like it, the doom element is strong so I can recommend it to oped minded doomsters. Since there is a lot of black metal Springtime Depression is best listened as black metal, in the evening and alone. I like most of the songs but "Subway Apathy" is a particularly dark song and probably the best one on the album. // 9
