Sound: Like their previous albums, "The Plot Against Common Sense" is rock with a hard twist, distorted heavy guitars and a truly p-ssed off vocalist. However they add a sense of grandeur with "Notes On Achieving Orbit" and "Goals In Slow Motion", which is a new direction for them and stops the album becoming too monotonous. Overall, the sound plays perfectly into their ethos, and has become a lot more refined since the days of Mclusky. // 9

Lyrics: The lyrics are a lot less surreal than previous work from Falkous, and the meaning "Sorry Dad I Was Late For The Riots" and "Failed Olympic Bid" is hard to miss. Although Future Of The Left have always been critical of the middle classes and moneyed elite, this album puts it across in blunter terms than ever before. However it's all delivered with a trademark venom from the vocalist, whose anger is so convincing it'll unsettle the audience at times. Perfect for a cathartic listening experience. // 9

Overall Impression: It's hard to compare Future Of The Left to any other band - however in the midst of current pop culture their music just gets more relevant. Almost every song on the album is a winner, more so than either of their previous two albums. It leaves the listener thoroughly disenfranchised and suitably angsty, and once you see them live in concert it just gets better. If this one was stolen, I'd use it as an excuse to follow them on tour for a while before replacing it. // 10
