Sound: This Mercury Music Prize nominated debut is a bursting sky epic of avant-garde pop that soars and swoops through you with a beauty that will make you giddy. The band, all mysterious and eccentric. Produce their own distinctive sound, one strange enough to be truly inspiring, magic, romantic, a worthy soundtrack to any beauitful life. There are quiet, whispered moments, remnants of birdsong, and notes tiptoeing gently behind as Dangerfield sings so sweetly just to you. Then there's a beat and great melodic, catchy pop shot high into blue sky on strings, then jazz as saxophones burst forth jubilantly, and styles slur and you smile. // 10
Lyrics and Singing: The lyrics would mostly fall flat scrawled alone on a page as dull love poetry, but when sang with such feeling and enthusiasm by Fyfe Dangerfield, and with such great musical accompaniment to compliment them, they work really rather delightfully. As well as the theme of love, there's also "Trains To Brazil" a song of brilliant lyric about choosing life over fear in the current world of terror, bombings, and that police shooting. // 7
Impression: Like the Arcade Fire's "Funeral", "Through The Window Pane" is the type of album that one can listen to for weeks, gently submerged from the world in an almost enchanted bliss. Dance around the house to it, play it in woodland as the day seeps colour, give it to birds to sing the dawn to rise all happy and bright, use the CD as a shiney thing to attract a mate, just buy it now. // 9
Nice review by the way
