Sound: HHLL has always been a band to constantly change their sound. With their first two "demos", I suppose you could call them,"Courtside seats", and "F--k It!?" (not counting the "Kids, Kids, Kids" EP here). They were more of a screamo/hardcore unit and rather sloppy but with potential. Their third and first real effort, "Everything's Watched, Everyone's Watching", they lost a singer but gained a great sound. Gone was the screamo and out came crushing hardcore/metal. This new album, TN&TTS, is almost a surf rock album. Gone is the deep half sung growls, given in favor of a raspy scream. Also gone is the bone brushing breakdowns, in favor of some funky grooves. For me the vocals are the worst part. But the music itself is also a step in a new direction. They kept the quirky riffs and emphasized them more. The bass is also much more groovy. Overall the music itself is excellent and the vocals not too bad but sometimes Robbie gets a bit annoying. // 8

Lyrics: HHLL's lyrics have always been a shining grace for the band. Very off-beat and original. This has not changed. Although they seem as if they were rushed. Sometimes it seems as though they were quirky just for the sake of being so, and others just plain stupid. The band stated that all the songs came from inside jokes in their inner circle but I don't see it. Not horrible, but not the great, funny lyrics they once were. // 6

Overall Impression: The best way I could describe this album is The Beach Boys on acid. Very surfy, quirky riffs. It isn't as good as any of their older material but it still is a listenable album. Sadly the three of four songs they released on their myspace are the shining moments of the album. There's a lot of filler and songs that just don't work. This can be unacceptable seeing as the album is 35 minutes with 8 of them being dead space between the last song and the hidden track. There is also a Black Flag cove, "Wasted", thrown in to take up even more space. If you liked Heavy Heavy Low Low's previous efforts than you will no doubt find something to enjoy on this album. Just don't expect more of the same. // 7
