Sound: Young Jimi Hendrix was already a star in the U.K. but playing at Monterey made him a star in the U.S. In 1967 Jimi Hendrix had only one album out, Jimi had yet to be a star in his home country. The Monterey Pop Festival made Jimi a legend. This concert is a piece of music history! The remastered recording sounds very good considering it is 1967. Here is the tracklist:

01.Introduction
02.Killing Floor-Howlin' Wolf Cover
03.Foxey Lady
04.Like A Rolling Stone- Bob Dylan Cover
05.Rock Me Babey-B.B. King Cover
06.Hey Joe
07.Can You See Me
08.Wind Cries Mary
09.Purple Haze
10.Wild Thing-Troggs Cover

With this CD we can experience the energy of Jimi live! // 9

Lyrics and Singing: If you listen to Jimi and concentrate on his singing and The Lyrics, you should never be allowed to listen to music again. Jimi does his singing with his guitar! Get that through your head! Jimi plays some shibby solos especially “Hey Joe”(which he plays with his teeth) Enough said. // 8

Impression: This is a very good live album with high energy all the way through. This also has five great covers if you have all of his studio albums. My track picks are "Like a Rolling Stone" "Rock Me Babey" "Hey Joe".

There is also the famous ending of Jimi lighting his guitar on fire and smashing it, you can hear all the sounds, but it would be better to watch on video and that is the only down side. Hendrix fans buy this album. // 9

So you're totally dismissing Hendrix's singing AND songwriting skills?
That's pretty weak.
And what exactly does "shibby" mean?
If English is your first language, you should be ashamed.
If it isn't, keep learning.

Give some more details please. And what about the other musicians? Its really sad how much Mitch Mitchell who is up there with Peart, Bonham, Ginger Baker and Carmine Appice as rock's best drummers, is always overlooked. Hendrix may have been supreme talent, but so were some of the people who played with him.

Jimi's songwriting? Why you make it sound like he was a guitarist not a musician? You be ashamed of yourself, he composed some amazing songs that still sound fresh today. Sure he played guitar on them, but you can play little wing on a keyboard and still have it mean something.

Great album, especially "Like a Rolling Stone." He does Dylan well.

I think it is pretty much understood that hendrix was not a great lyricist. He did get better as his career progressed, but at the beginning his song were definitely just an excuse to play guitar. He is alltime as a guitarist, but people do exaggerate his talent as a sing/songwriter.
