The Fiddler
: SLight maturing from his pop balads, but still think he should ditch his main fanbase (mostly teenaged girls) and pursue his own genre (which he proclaimed to be more bluesy). HIs covers for Hendrix and SRV are amazing....but I can't stand the fact that writes pop for revenue.POSTED: 01/23/2007 - 10:01 am / quote |

: Hmm, ive never heard of this cd. I have all of his other cds/dvds and they are amazing. Maybe I will pick this up if I see it.
And ya this guy has some pop stuff thats on the radio but thats just because the record producers just want money so they put out the most radio friendly song. If you look at most all good artists, the singles they release suck compared to the rest of the cd.POSTED: 01/23/2007 - 07:52 pm / quote |

The record producer has nothing to do with what song is released as a single... The record company will do all that. Maybe some input from the artist, depending on the label and band.POSTED: 01/23/2007 - 08:55 pm / quote |

: Continuum pop???? first of all, pop isn't a genre when you think about it. It just means that the music is accessable to a large audience. And this is by far the least poppy album john has made so far, it's very soulful and bluesy. His covering Hendrix, not Nsync...
The EP is incredible... Slow dancing is so good acoustic and they're like totally different songs.

"John Mayer? That guy could blow almost any of today's guitarists away."

I would say that John Mayer has a pretty damn good idea what he's doing. This album is fabulous. I love it and always find something new in the music every time I listen to it.POSTED: 08/05/2007 - 07:15 pm / quote |

: This album is amazing, and is basically the sister album to Continuum. I've dubbed it acoustic crack. And btw, Continuum is hardly poppy (excluding Track 1). Vultures and Gravity go back to the JMT CD, and listen to "Slow Dancing" and "Belief". Blues.POSTED: 09/05/2007 - 05:58 pm / quote |

what do you mean? other than try album and the live jm trio contiuum was way more blues influenced than room for sqrs or that pathetic heavier things, and some of the songs from continuum came from his work with jm trioPOSTED: 11/22/2007 - 03:48 am / quote |

: I still don't understand how some of you think that he is still writing "poppy" stuff. Have you listened to Continuum at all or have you assumed he still is? He sings songs about the stubborness of beliefs and how they can sometimes lead to tragedy like war (Belief), the crisis that comes from growing up (Stop This Train), and even the bounce-back from an apparent strong, emotional relationship (In Repair, I'm Gonna Find Another You, Dreaming With A Broken Heart). Those are all greatly blue influenced unlike his older "poppy" stuff. I think that he has taken a huge step in his career with Continuum and the Village Sessions. This CD is a great buy for anyone who likes great musicianship with amazing lyrics. For all of you who hated, Your Body Is A Wonderland era John Mayer will find a completely new person and style on this record. Its my favorite album in my collection at the moment and has been for a very long time. POSTED: 02/08/2008 - 04:16 pm / quote |

: who the hell cares if his shit is on the radio? waiting on the world to change is an amazing song and anyone who says that its any more "poppy" than the rest of the album is out of their mind. like it or not, he's a pop artist, and unlike many pop artists, he is popular because he is good at what he does.POSTED: 02/19/2008 - 07:20 am / quote |
