Sound: LoveHateHero have come a long way since their debut album 'Just Breathe' with their sound maturing both musically and lyrically. The guitarwork on this album is amazing, with Kevin Gruft (Thrasher) providing very solid lead guitar lines, along with lots of harmonisations and solos. On this album, the only band members that have remained since they recorded their EP are bassist Paris and vocalist Pierrick, who sings more confidently and switches between vocal styles often. The three new members all prove to be very talented musicians, from the memorable guitarlines to advanced drumwork. The songs that stand out the most would be Goodbye My Love, Amity and White Lies. // 9
Lyrics and Singing: There are moments in this album where the lyrics and vocals really do stand out, and you get a feeling that Pierrick really means what he is singing, and there are very memorable choruses. Some of the themes in the album are slightly familiar (losing love, being cheated on, image, and the choices that the band have had to make to get where they are) but all of the songs work really well and there is enough variety to ensure that the album is not too samey. // 8
Impression: White Lies is a very good album from a band that is getting a lot better. However, there are not a lot of innovations or original ideas that LoveHateHero have put forward as a whole, and some listeners may feel that they have heard some of it before. This should not, though, stop people from buying this album, as it is a showcase of great musical talent and boasts twelve very memorable songs. If the band keep progressing as they have, the next album should be something to really look forward to. // 8
