This is Nathanson's major label debut, and he doesn't waste the opportunity, cherry picking a trio of songs from his earlier releases to re-record, and with some radio-ready new material, the result is an impressively cohesive pop album.

Sound: Matt Nathanson has created his best album yet. "Please" was a fantastic debut, "Ernst" was a great acoustic record, and "Not Colored Too Perfect" was a solid record. With "Still Waiting For Spring," Nathanson found a sound that works and followed that up with this release, "Beneath These Fireworks." The album kicks off with "Angel," a pretty and short acoustic tune, and goes into the highlight track, "Suspended." From there, every song is amazing. There is not a track on this CD you should want to skip. He redid five of his old tracks on this record, and each one sounds ten times better. Must have record. // 10

Lyrics and Singing: Matt Nathanson has always been an interesting songwriter. He certainly has his moments where he makes no sense at all. On the other hand, he always seems to blow you away with a line or two. The writing on this record is amazing, with such lyrical highlights as "Bare," one of the old songs, and just about every new track. "Suspended," "I Saw," "Sad Songs," and "Sing Me Sweet." // 9

Impression: It's amazing that this guy was thirty when this record came out and has not yet made it big. His first couple of records were very good, but perhaps nothing stood out. His last two records, though, have shown that Matt Nathanson is certainly one of the best artists on the scene today. "Suspended" could be a sure hit, along with half of the album. For any new Matt Nathanson fan, this is the place to start. // 10
