Sound: It's always nice to hear a band that hasn't fallen into any particular genre, and None More Black is one of those bands. With a very unique sound that leaves you confused yet pleased, File Under Black is very much worth buying. Even though the 14 tracks add up to just over half an hour of music, every second makes it a short and sweet album. Each member shows off their skills at more than one point, which is refreshing to hear instead of the band relying on one or two members to show themselves off. The only problem I would have with it would be that one or two of the songs sound a little bit similar, but before long each song distinguishes itself from the others, making this a truly great piece of music. // 9

Lyrics: Jason Shevchuk has a quite a distinguishable voice, very suited to their unique style. It was just was needed to complete their sound, and it's pulled off brilliantly. Lyrically, the content is confusing at best, but nonetheless it is highly enjoyable, with catchy choruses and memorable lines. Take note songwriters: lyrics don't always have to make sense to be good. // 8

Overall Impression: None More Black were a very underrated band, mostly remaining in obscurity until Rock Against Bush. It was sad to see that they had broken up, but their other projects before and after are also well worth a listen. For this album in particular, listen to Everyday Balloons, Risk Management and Ice Cream with the Enemy as the best examples of brilliance from a truly excellent outfit. // 9
