apparently noone has noticed that trust in you's intro is a complete rip off of the title track off of smash.

i love this album though. 10/10

TheUnholy :
UG Team review mentions the band "maturing" - well, they bloody well need to! They proved emphatically at the Download festival that they can no longer get away with the whole skate-punk act - they're too old, too static, and Dexter's voice doesn't have that youthful bounce any more. If they have woken up to this, kudos to them - because if they continue to plough their old furrow they'll quickly find themselves a parody of themselves.

Offspring is what started my journey into heavier styles of music like rock and metal. Although I no longer listen to punk or soft rock and became a death metal fan, I still enjoy their songs. Listening to this album right now and I must say its great!

I think this album is done very well, especially for a maturing artist. Lets put it like this: When you entered puberty, didn't you have a squeaky voice? There are a few songs on this album that are squeaks, but its still a very good album.

damn! Offspring fan since '94 and still loving it. But they definitely changed throughout the years, and not always for the better. I still look forward to checking this album out though.

the cover art looks very generic to me. i really love the offspring though... theyve always been a favorite of mine.

They ripped off themselves?!

AudioMetaRage :
"But in between the key tracks are a few rather dull offerings that just feel like any other pop punk track or ballad on the radio. The Offspring might have been trying to play it safe (or perhaps Bob Rock had a hand in it) for those tracks, but after more than 20 years together (they originally formed in 1984 if you can believe it), they shouldn’t have to cater to the latest pop punk trends."

This is what I got when i heard the album.

i like this new album. it kinda reminds me of the old smash sound that they went back to. this was a great cd. hell of a lot better than splinter. great work.

i havent bought this album yet, but i probably will in the next week or two. i just hope its better than Splinter, which it seems like it will be. i love the Offspring.

Damn, what a long wait. I had been waiting very patiently for a new album from The Offspring. I can't also can't believe the release of this album has finally happened at long last. I'm gonna have to get it soon.

It may sound similar...but the chord progression is pretty different.

Trust In You: F-G-Ab-Eb-Bb-C
Smash: F-C-Db-Ab-Bb-C

The similarity: They start on F and end on C. F being the tonic, and C being the fifth. Nothing unusual.

The only song I can't listen to on here is "Rise and fall" b/c it sounds way too much like "American Idiot" other than that I believe it's their best work in a long time.

Well the song is about Green Day so it's so simmilar on purpose..plus American Idiot is already a ripoff of a song by D4..

Heh, Offspring rip themselves off all the time. Seriously, how many Offspring songs follow an Am, F, C, G chord pattern? At least 75%.

this goes up in my ranks with Ixnay and Smash. an overall solid album.

im kinda dissapointed with this new cd i though it would be more "punk". has anyone heared O.C life , is the Japanese solo and that song is really great i still like offspring and the cd is good but it isnt the best of them.

this albums was amazing, i LOVE the first half, the second half i could take or leave :p but it is certainly a take back to their old style.

and yeah... they do plagiarize themselves here and there, some very... similar... riffs, very recognizable ones, but there's only so much you can do to make things sound diff when you have so many great hits :P

kudos to the offspring for this one.

I liked their new album. it brings out the punk these days when its all Rap and Some crappy alternative songs.

RCA1186 :
I love the offspring they are still my favorite band and always will be even though I'm a metal head now, heck they got me into heavy stuff I even got a tattoo of their logo because of that but this album is absolutely horrible! With the exception of hammerhead which is one of the best songs they've written in my opinion and maybe two other songs it is downright bad. You're going to go far kid has an intro that reminds me of fallout boy or some crap like it and a lot of the album sounds like they're trying too hard to sound like green day. I must say with the anticipation I had over the last 5 years this album is a major dissappointment. I really hope they make another album so they don't go out on such a low note.

it's in a different key, but the rhytyms are identical.

It has Bob Rock's influence in it, that's definitely felt. I don't know why that guy is still employed.

for me, i loved this album all bar one track. Fix you. Sounds soooo similar to "Wake me up when september ends" other than that a solid album.

'A lot like me' has the kinda feeling of Dirty magic imo

No it hasn't.

Sadly - this album is one of the worst. Only first 4 tracks are good ("You're Gonna Go Far Kid" is simply amazing). The rest fly into your head through one ear and fly out through other one.

Take_Warning :
This Album is a big let down. After Hammerhead was released as a single, and after listening to it i thought it would be a bitchin album. But there are only a few good tracks.

The sound is a little odd to, the guitars just don't sound like they do on other albums, kinda over-processed.

I don't think it was them "maturing" I think it was them trying to sell to the newer crowd. But that's just me.

the only song i don't really like is let's hear it from rock bottom, even though it's quite catchy.

I can imagine that people don't really like this album, because it's not really what you expect from The Offspring. But, that has been the case since Co1, and I don't think it's bad at all. The band has done quite a few things, and I can imagine that they want to do something different after 24 years. I love them for what they do.
Doesn't anyone realize it's still music where the backing vocals determine a lot of the band's sound, and the band that does so much with such simple riffs. You just can't deny this album is catchy as ****.

love them!

this has been a great summer for music. Weezer, Goldfinger, Offspring, and Alkaline Trio all have new albums out. and we have Rancid, Rise Against, and AC/DC to look forward to in the fall

Solid album. I don't know why people are upset by "Kristy" and "Fix You." Its only two songs, they clearly aren't going to become a sissy band and those songs seem odd at first but really grew on me.

I agree that Rise and Fall seems very similar to American Idiot. I thought that the very first time I heard it, but honestly, this album is NOT a rip-off of Green Day.

I must also say I must just look at The Offspring very differently from most people because Splinter is one of my favorites and Ixnay is one of my least favorites.

to be honest im pretty sure "rise and fall" was actually intended to sound like american idiot, talking about green day's rise and fall...cause everyone knows that american was Green Days great fall

wildchild6660 :
It wasn't their fall dumbass. More like heir reincarnation. Or rather an overhaul, seeing as they never died.

i have to say that you're gonna go far kid is one of my favorite songs.
with i usually dabble somewhere between i am a huge fan of bands like bodom and BTBAM, but this song is amazing
i dont usually listen to the offspring, but i heard this song and was blown away. the chorus is great. i love this guys voice. the beat just adds to the song... so great

Schmuckyou :
I thought it was pretty funny that the UG Team thought the song 'O.C. Life' was the best example of Offspring having 'plenty of life still in them'. That extra edge and punkness you speak of is due to the song being written by another band. The O.C. Life is a cover of a D.I. song, and while the Offspring version is good, it is also kind of a letdown because it doesn't really sound any different than the already awesome D.I. version (especially the live version).

Really good album. Not Great like Americana or Smash but it stands up really well. Stuff is Messed Up is the song I wish I wrote, Hammerhead is awesome, and although Kristy is a little "poppy" it's not a bad departure from their usual stuff.

Can't wait to see them June 23rd at the LC in Columbus!!!

yea. they sound as if they had to make some new stuff for new generations. i dont know but it seems to me that the new generations prefer older albums to this one too.
