kontarisjohn :
i really liked their debut album and a couple of songs from the last one..the selftitled track is very catchy! i hope the rest of the album is even better!

CptRevell :
The title track, with its chorus of “Work! Buy! Consume! Die,” is a strong statement against the capitalism-driven rat race

But by signing to a bigger label...aren't they taking advantage of this?

I really wouldn't criticize for this, a lot of people who are registered communists or socialists have normal jobs. And when music is your career, signing to a bigger record label is no different from taking a promotion or a raise

Rysis :
The Sound is not emo, which is always mistaken. Its more Nu Metal to me. Ive heared few of the songs they sound great. Going to buy this album when it comes to stores.

Possibly a move to get their message out to a wider audience?

Thats still a compromise of values...regardless of its necessity.

And for the record, I've never referred to anyone as a "tortured poet" unless I was making fun of them.

Anyone else pick up that the line "Smash The Control Machine" is from Ministry's "Just One Fix" single? Anyone?

kamjam7 :
i feel really strange about opinions with music, because i can listen to anything with some general decency and love it immediately. Poor singing and/or different screams or no voices at all doesn't bother me, because i just like metal, including nu metal, which kick just as much ass as any other metal genre.

anyways sounds like an good cd. never really heard much besides noose and nail, or whatever.

+3 for guitarsftw

Nolan it is a line from a WILLIAM BURROUGHS poem. Ministry just used it too. It is not original to Ministry. Burroughs is one of Otep's favorite poets and she gives credit to Burroughs...did Ministry?
THIS OTEP CD IS THE BEST ! I love every heavy, pummeling, melodic moment!!

Nice freakin' job, UG.

I deleted any post related to the genre argument. If you argued about genres, I deleted it. If you so much as quoted a post that was related to the genre argument, I deleted it. I didn't hand out warnings, but if it happens again I will.

Checked. Don't fuck it up.

Nolan Whyte :
reylamet: Of course they gave him credit. He recorded with them and was in their video. And yes, he actually met the band. Al visited WSB at his farm house in Kansas. PWTANG! The b-side to the single was Burroughs reading the last few pages from his novel Exterminater! with backing music.

In closing, I'm not very familiar with Otep, but I share his literary taste. If it were up to me, no one would be able to graduate high school without reading Junkie, Queer, and Naked Lunch.

Sorry I just called Otep "his". My bad. I got caught up in the moment. I meant her literary taste.

very cool! looks like Cobain and many others admired him too. i wonder at his age how he felt about it. seems like he was a cool guy.
