Sound: Drawing influences from a range of rock genre's, Sanctus Real's third offering is the most thoughtful yet. However, each song on the track sounds different, which for a non-mainstream group is no mean feat! The opening track immediately grabs your attention with a heavier take on the band's genre: jarring guitars and heavy bass and beats a-plenty. Following tracks include the more melodic and 'inward' approaches of 'Fly' and the title track, and a return to conventional rock makes way for a tear-jerking finale in 'Benjamin'. // 7
Lyrics and Singing: Finally an album about real love! None of your over-produced boy friend/girl friend songs: these songs talk about compassion, dedication, struggles, companionships, and true friendships. 'Eloquent' describes how, even with his short comings, he is loved unconditionally both by his creator and his family. 'Don't Give Up' is a plea to couples going through a tough patch. The message is: hang on in there, it's going to be alright! The final track 'Benjamin' is a melancholy look-back at the life of two great friends, one having died, and how they loved each other and will continue to do so. // 9
Impression: Well it depends what you are looking for. If you want aggression, this is not for you. If you want party anthems, this is not for you. If you want reflective, honest music from the heart about the heart, this is a must have! The ablumj is beautifully crafted, and shows definate signs of potential for many more talent-filled offerings to come. Although to some the sound and lyrics may seem inane, the album requires you to look deeper, and question what us actually meant. Would I buy it again? Yes, as I lost the CD only two days ago! // 8
