The songs generally start out pleasantly straight, then take a sharp turn into some very twisted territory. Even after you know what's coming, they're still a riot!

Sound: The singing comedian's debut album somewhat pales due to his excellent performances on Comedy Central and on his DVD, Live at the El Rey. The studio album, containg some of his most memorable songs, also contains some of his more average songs, such as a Month dead which whilst having a good tune and funny lyrics, the jokes aren't as consistent as his later work. This description fits a couple more of the songs and with the general studiop production of this album, some of the humour and all the improvisation is lost in translation, and so for repeat listens, it's never that funny again. // 6

Lyrics: Some songs here have truly excellent lyrics, even for Lynch. His classics Lullaby and Special Ed are here but songs like Jim Henson's dead, which isn't really that funny even if you are a muppets fan, bring down the album. Despite the great guitar work in the song, the emphasis of this album is comedy, and Lynch is primarily a comedian. When this is the case when half the albums songs are awkwardly paced then it shows that Lynch was really just starting out and a lot of his songs rely on performances. // 8

Overall Impression: While a couple of songs here are gems, pretty much all the decent ones can be found on his live album Superhero, and as this is an all round better album, then I'd personally recommened you buy that instead. The DVD also contains most of the better material off of A Little Bit Special, so whilst an ok album, it's really not worth buying unless you're desperate for more Lynch. // 6
