Sound: This was the third offering from the sleezy southern act but was their breakthrough into the popular market. With 5 consecutive top ten singles including the memorable 'Trash' and the catchy 'Beautiful Ones' this album delivers everything from feel good hits to emotional downers. The style of the album is like nothing else as it mixes hints of britpop with drops of '70s glam rock. This album put Suede in the mainstream and deservadly so as it is a cracker. // 9
Lyrics and Singing: The lyrics by Brett Anderson are very catchy and still drug and sex refences are heavily used. Songs such as Lazy and Filmstar capture the genius of Anderson as he mixes good simple lyrics with his complex vocals. Unlike 'Dog Man Star' this album catches Suede at there most melodic with the final track 'Saterday Night' capping off a great release. Anderson's voice over the 10 songs is very simple but effective with everything in tune with a little Brett magic added. // 8
Impression: This was the album that saw Suede breakthrough into the mainstream and live up to the early hype. After the bands difficault but impressive second album they went back to basics and made a classic pop album. There are no throwaways on the album unlike their first two offerings with 'Trash' and 'Chemistry Between Us' being the two outstanding tracks. One thing to love with this album is its simplicity and basic approach which serves them well. If I lost this album I would certainly buy it again and agian. // 9
