Sound: Syd Barrett's sound of his solo career is similar to what Bob Dylan would sound like with a british accent and just Guitar and voice. Everyone knows that Syd did this when he was mentally ill and it is very interesting to hear the music of a damaged mind. If the mind is damaged or not, this is still a good compilation with some good tunes. But the sound isn't that similar to "The Piper At The Gates Of Dawn". // 9
Lyrics and Singing: Syd Barrett's lyrics? Things are starting to get more and more interesting. "Dominoes" has very good lyrics and it was originally guitar and voice, but David Gilmour dubbed in a few more things to make it more complicated. Syd Barrett's status is slightly shown on "Wouldn't You Miss Me (Dark Globe)" when it sounds like he is getting angry at the chorus. "Opel" has some of the best chord schemes I've heard, especially in the bridge. "Bob Dylan Blues" also has a good acoustic intro. // 9
Impression: This is a very good compilation, and "Opel" must be heard. This album doesn't quite measure up to what Syd was writing on "The Piper At The Gates Of Dawn". By the way, this was released in America on Sept. 11, 2001. Basically, if you like Syd's solo career, this is a good compilation, and if you haven't heard his solo songs, and you only listen to Pink Floyd's "Dark Side Of The Moon", "Wish You Were Here" and "The Wall", you might want to preview this on the internet first. // 8
