Sound: From the single keyboard note that starts the album off, to the soothing eight-minute journey that is "Fall To Place," this album takes listeners on a musical and emotional joyride from beginning to end, never ceasing to come up with something new and take a new turn. It has been said that The Pale Pacific has a sound "More Death Cab than Death Cab," which proves true and is very prominent in this album, which is their second release from SideCho Records. The band uses a very pleasing blend of keyboard, guitar, bass, and vocals, with the ever-present backing of the drums, to create quite a unique sound not too often heard from artists these days. It is also interesting to point out that on the majority of the album, the keyboard is more present than the guitar, which is usually the exact opposite with similar bands. // 10
Lyrics and Singing: The lyrics are very different from most of the lyrics found in modern-day indie bands, and most of the time it is hard to decipher their true meaning by simply reading them, or singing along to them. The vocals, sometimes calm and soothing, at other times loud and harsh, is a great example of the singer/keyboardists talents. // 8
Impression: Sucker Punch is a five-minute adventure, and easily the best song on the album. Sucker Punch starts off with the drum beat and the keyboard playing off each other, while the vocals come in and the song remains steady for awhile. Soon, though, the other instruments join in, and it quickly escalates into a pleasing conclusion for the end of the song. Coming from a huge metal/hardcore/classic rock fan, it may come as a surprise when I say that this is easily one of my favorite albums. Very laid back, and recommended for anyone who can enjoy some good, mellow music. // 10
