Sound: Allied Forces is the fifth studio album by the greatly overlooked Canadian hard rock/heavy metal band Triumph. The album consists of a total of 9 tracks, and each song is great and full of feeling, other than maybe "Air Raid", which is a random one minute and twenty seconds of a siren. Does it serve a point and mean something? Probably, but when you're listening to the album, do you really want to listen to a random air raid? Probably not. The album is full of lots of really heavy electric riffs, as well as acoustic and classical ones. Rik Emmett's guitar playing and solos are amazing, and Gil Moore's drumming is also incredible. If there's any complaint I have, it's that Michael Levine's bass playing isn't as dominant as it could be, and sometimes it's difficult to hear. Overall though, the album has a great sound, whether it's heavy or soft. // 10

Lyrics: The lyrics on this album are very straight forward for the most part, and are pretty much typical rock lyrics for the era. There are a few really good, deep songs however. For instance, the lyrics in "Fight The Good Fight" and "Magic Power" are really great. The vocals themselves are great. Rik Emmett's voice is comparable to Geddy Lee of Rush, fairly high pitched but generally good. They suit the songs and really bring out the rest of the music. Overall, the vocals and the lyrics are really quite good. // 8

Overall Impression: Allied Forces is an amazing album. From the crazy guitar solo in "Fight The Good Fight" to the insane acoustic instrumental "Petite Etude", it's all there. The album has a great variety of style and you can really tell that the band members know what they're doing. This is personally on of my favorite albums by them, right up there with Rock And Roll Machine and Thunder Seven. If you are already a fan of Triumph, or are just looking for a really good hard rocking band, check out this album. Triumph is greatly overlooked, but is really an amazing band that any fan of the genre should check out. // 10
