Sound: Yngwie Johann Malmsteen is probably the most famous exponent of neo-classical shred metal with a distinctive sound which is sometimes reminiscent of JS Bach's music. Malmsteen uses triads and arpeggios a lot in his music and his blazing speed and technical proficiency are sure to impress. // 10
Lyrics and Singing: Four of the fourteen tracks on this album are instrumentals but the ten that are not feature vocals from a whole bunch of excellent singers that Yngwie has hired over the years. The lyrics of most of the songs tell their story pretty well and the vocals are so powerful that you can't help howling along with them regardless of their subject matter. // 9
Impression: This album is great for people who want to start listening to Malmsteen or neo-classical music in general but are not sure where to start and it offers a good selection of Yngwie's most famous tracks. Highlights include: "Black Star" "Far Beyond The Sun" "Trilogy suite Op 5" and "Eclipse". I love this album and I spin it regularly, my only slight niggle is that I would've liked more songs (a double CD perhaps) but Overall this is an essential addition to any well balanced CD collection and a must for neo-classical newbies keen to get a taste of this exciting genre of music. // 10
