Sound: Finally, after 14 years of waiting, fans can own the official copy of Nirvana's Unplugged concert. Although Nirvana is usually known for their hard, yet poppy, songs, full of feedback and sound effect solos, Nirvana takes a complete turn around with this acoustic based set. Songs like About A Girl, Dumb, and Come As You Are are featured. // 9
Content: The first thing I noticed (I dunno if it is just my DVD player) was that there was no menu. When I put the DVD in, the concert started right away. There are some special features, including the Original MTV Broadcasted Version (the DVD version is the full and uncut version of the show), an interview type deal with the band, and pre-show rehearsals of Polly, Plateau, Come As You Are, Pennyroyal Tea, and Man Who Sold The World; however they are hidden behind the actual DVD and you must skip through the show to get to them. One thing noticeable about this show is their set list. The ratio of covers to original songs is fairly close. Eight originals, 6 covers. // 10
Production Quality: If one compares the show quality to the original broadcast, they will realize one thing straight away; the sound quality. Before being released on DVD, the show was remixed into Dolby Digital 5.1 surround sound, recreating the show as if you were there. I was using a simple speaker setup on my desktop computer to watch this show, consisting of just two speakers and a subwoofer, and it sounded amazing! // 10
Impression: While the songs on this are nothing new, it's the first time that this show was released on video, uncut, with no edits, which is something no bootleg could accomplish. Anyone who watched this after buying bootleg copies of the show off eBay would be kicking themselves right now, everything from the intimate moments with the band before each song to the rehearsals are all packed on one disc for only twenty bucks! I would definitely buy this again if it got stolen. I would say that this is 4x as good as the compact-disc by the same name. The videos made the unplugged show better. // 10

Sound: I'm a Nirvana fan for like 3 years or smth.As stupid this may sound I realy think I'm a "hardcore" fan. When I first heard about this DVD I thought "yay" and "urgh... another milking from the Nirvana name". But now I know that this is a real gift to the fans of Nirvana. Grunge band Nirvana which plays very rough and agresive does an acoustic set, which sounds amazing. The atmosphere is so intimate. It's so silent. You fell like you are there. // 10
Content: The DVD features absolutely uncut version of the concert (10/10), MTV broadcast version (don't see the point of it 7/10), the interview with MTV staff, audience members, Dave and Krist (no Kurt 10/10), and rehearself (100/10). I'm very satisfied with everything in this DVD. The uncut version lets you see very funny moments between songs. The interviews: you hear things that you never knew, interesting stuff. The rehearsel, no comments, you have to see it. // 10
Production Quality: The quality of the video is amazing. The sound is Dolby 5.1: you can hear every instrument and peep. The only thing that I'm disappointed is the subtitles. They aren't correct. For example you can clearly Dave sayng "what's next" but the subtitles say "well thanks". Then at some point the subtitles show only few words. // 9
Impression: I compare this to Live Tonight Sold Out. Ok LTSO has more action but Unplugged is more calm and beautiful and I think that that's the way it should be. The most impresive thing is the uncut version. I have seen the gig at TV a few times but now I watch and I think wow MTV cuted a lot of great things. The only thing I hate is the quality of the subtitles. But you can just turn them off and there you go. I've got this for a christmas present and I absolutely love it. Don't worry this isnt just another milking of the name of Nirvana. // 10
"what are they tuning, a harp? i thought we were a big, rich rock band, we should have a whole bunch of extra guitars" hahah
i really want to see this dvd
this dvd really is a must have for any nirvana fan. i watched it last night, and i don't know why but for some reason i got kind of choked up towards the end. this was kinda like kurts farewell performance to the word. i mean look at the stage, it's covered in white lilies and candles. which were kurt's idea, one of the mtv people told him it looked like a funeral. and he said "yeah, like a funeral that would be cool." and then five months later..well we all know what happened.
i'm not the world's biggest nirvana fan, but they were exceptionally talented, and i love listening to this performance on my ipod, so it looks like a win for me.
and awesome, being 16 i never got to see the broadcast of the concert so im definitely getting this DVD
I'd agree with that, i hate kiss and think they were overrated, ultra commercial 'sell outs'(hate to use such a cliched term but its true) who are way more concerned with profit and merchandise than being good musicians.
I admit nirvana can be overrated, but i did love the unplugged performance, because it emphasised the bits of nirvana that were great, namely kurts lyrics and his general presence.
This is my opinion. If you are a Nirvana fan, don't read it.
I used to like Nirvana in my teen years, but as I got older, I saw them for what they were, bad amalgams of the Pixies and the Beatles. I took a long time to admit it, but Weezer do Nirvana a whole lot better than they do. Island in the sun is the song Kurt Kobain continually tried to write and couldn't.
since when was music a popularity contest? this has nothing to do with good music. and actually they arent all the fags at my school listen to the post-hardcore shit and have never heard of nirvana. anyways music is music i got thr bootleg off limewire but the qaulity sucks so cant wait to get this!
nirvana = greatest band of all time (hey, my opinion...)
kurt cobain was a really great guy, i really feel bad for the guy, whatever you say to me, it wont matter....he was just a great guy with no guidance or meaning in his life...he was constantly looking for some kind of guidance....
VICTOR HUGO QUOTE:
"That which makes the life of man pleasant and enjoyable, makes his labor joyful, gives warmth to his heart, and broadens the horizons of his vision, is none other than what revelation and religion give man."
Kurt had A LOT of problems in his life, but never really could overcome them, he needed some sort of moral guidance: religion...for religion provides comfort for fear of death...
ill leave you with this quote from...
Dr. Carrel (the well-known scholar):
"The answer given by religion to the anxiety man feels when confronted with the mystery of death is infinitely more satisfactory than that given by science; religion gives man the answer his heart desires."
And btw, it is not an opinion, but a fact that kurt was a great songwriter, and he did a lot better than island in the sun (im not bringing down the status of island in the sun, its an awesome song really, just raising the status of kurt and nirvana.
email me at hesam_rahmani13@yahoo.com for my own personal thoughts on cobain and/or religion...

One thing I hate about people is they judge of what kind of people listen to what music. Like a gothed out girl who listens to hip-hop (someone judges her). It's not about popularity, it's about the right to express the self and yell out a voice for those who are in need for help or something like that. I realized that. Ever since I started listening to Nirvana, it helped me and got me through life every day, kind of like how MCR did for their fans. So while you're out there criticizing other people's live and music taste, go f**k yourself! Music is music! Like ur dad asked: "When was music a popularity contest?"
I say phuck those who stick to one genre, Kurt certainly didn't, I don't. Do the rest of us a favor, shut up and let other people enjoy their "anti-depressant."
Favorite part? "Any requests?
-"Serve The Servants!" "Radio Free Unit Shifter!"..."JEREMY!!!!!"
I did like the little snippets they did of "Sliver", "In Bloom", "Sweet Home Alabama", and the intro to "Scentless Apprentice"
You know what's funny...all these people are saying nirvana is over rated are wasting their time here just trying to act all cool. As the great Axl Rose said (watch Axl Rant/Welcome To The Jugnle on youtube and yes the video is misspelled jugnle) "It ain't about me bein' cool, it ain't about you bein' cool, but I think what we're all doin' tonight is pretty f**kin' cool. So if you came here to be a critical judgemental f**k, I guess that's your problem." Watch the entire rant, it's funny as f**k
