A lot of you might not know this, but Kurt Cobain was the lead singer/guitar player for a band called Nirvana. Nirvana achieved a moderate amount of success in the 90's and Fender has decided to commemorate the achievements of the late Cobain with a thoughtful and meticulous reissue of his 1965 Jaguar, one of the few guitars he didn't destroy.

It is a 2003 Mexican Strat with a wickedly psychedelic splatter paint finish. It is a standard MIM Strat in terms of neck size, fret numbers and controls. It's a versatile music machine with a hell of a tonal range.

The pickup selector is noisy and weak and the tuning pegs are very loose. The action was ok and the pickups dont seem too bad.

Standard Tele features, stock single coils, 21 medium jumbo frets. This has the more modern bridge with six saddles not the old school 3 saddles. This handles all styles easily. Overall this is a solid, versatile guitar that would suit most guitarists. I'm quite a competent player and this just feels right and easy to play.

It sounds just like a Stratocaster is supposed to sound on the neck and middle pick up positions, and has the fat Strat sound you expect from the bridge pickup. It offer good classic Strat tone, plus extends into the barky aggressive bridge humbucker tonal range.

The bridge humbucker is paticularly good for that Nirvana kind of top end crunch. However it can go into even some forms of metal! Trust me, this axe is a versatile beast.

This is a Chinese made Telecaster, part of Fender's new Modern Player range, but don't let the fact that it's not Mexican or American put you off. It's still fantastically built, feels solid and reliable and looks built to last.

The shape is reminiscent of my old SRV signature model Strat. The maple fingerboard feels like the flatter-than-vintage 12" radius and is very comfortable to play. The controls are all in their traditional places, except for the rear tone control which is replaced by the output jack.

It has 21 frets and it is black/white. It also has three single coils and a whammy bar. I bought the bag, strap, cable, etc all separate. It's an average guitar. Basically you're going to get what you pay for.
