I own an SG and I wonder if this Faded V is a guitar of the same class. If not, what else can I regard from this range for some heavy metal style? I'm hesitating to buy a Gibson V or a similar Hamer V. Neither of the reviews read have been very helpful for me this time.

An SG is fine for metal, but if you just want the V styling, I'd get the Hamer, similar quality and much less money.

I owned a Faded V for about three weeks, i'll be honest. This guitar is NOT built for metal or hard rock. my rig is a XXX Peavey full stack. and i've bought many guitars which only require plug and play from the store. for some reason when i plugged it in it gave me horrible feedback and annoying humming sound although it sounded fine at the store.i tried different settings and the guitar sounded great in cleaner settings. I really wanted an all around V so i sold it and got me a regular flying V (an extra $400).what a difference!! So if your thing is MEtal and hard rock think twice and really playing the **it out of the guitart at the store if it really suits your style go ahead and buy it. my personal rating is a 6.5 . you know what they say diff'rent strokes for diff'rent folk.

Actually, I find that the V is perfect for metal, the heavier the better. It all depends on how you set up the amp, but I use a Line 6 with plenty of distortion and the Faded V takes it all in it's stride and repays me double. I did find that pinch harmonics were a little hard to squeeze out, but I recently replaced the neck pickup with a Bare Knuckle handmade one (http://www.bareknucklepickups.com) and the result is incredible, it sounds even more amazing than it did.

The gibson faded V is perfectly good for metal, and it is also a good seller for gibson. What is it, about the same price as a les paul. If you're buying this guitar, remember your paying for the name. It might have good quality, but i wouldent hold my breath for it. I give it a 7.5 out of 10.

This guitar is one of Gibson's cheapest models along with the Faded SG. In my opinion, the Faded V and the Faded SG are the same guitars, just in different bodies.

V's are cool, and i do listen to metal, but i really dont like radical shapes..Im not sure why, SG's are cool, So are some ESP's and some LPs. I dont really dig V's

Hmm... Explains why I can't figure the difference between the faded V & the regular from looking at the specs. Still, t'is Gibson quality gear, which has gotta be better than Epiphones gear. Doesn't bother me that much if they're same guys as the Epiphones, they're damn well built for a budget guitar - got a Les Paul & a SG with a floyd rose on it, & they're both Soundly built & easy as piss to play. Sounds are good too, but are a lil too metal-orientated for my liking (mind you, that could be the Marshall it speaks through)

I just checked and it says that it is manufactured in Nashville TN. I know gibson has lacked some quality lately, but i like to think that everything with the Gibson name is made in good ole USA.

The faded V and the Faded SG are not even close in terms of sound. The SG is alright I guess, but nothing special. This V, on the other hand, sports Gibson's ceramic humbuckers, which IMO are one of the best pups Gibson makes.

I have the Gibson SG Faded Glory. It's a nice piece. But I would love to play the V.

Korzack :
Aye, I've got the faded SG as well - Only Gibsons you can get in my neck of the world without gambling with online. Even for an entry-level axe, it's very damn worth it - Somehow manages to make any amp I've used it in so far shine, and to be fair, a lot of it may have been with the name(you wanna feel like you're good enough to be able to properly play one of these things at times), but it's encouraged me to try & be a bit more adventurous with my playing. Want to try & get the V next, but I'll wait to try it & the ceramics before I buy, the samples aren't too convincing

Kalas, you do know that a Starcaster is a semi-hollow guitar made by Fender, right?
POSTED: 11/06/2007 - 12:40 am / quote |
thunderstruck56 :
both of you are right. The starcaster was a semi hollow guitar made by fender during the 1970's, and it is also the name of a cheap S*** stratocaster knock off brad name guitar too. Bu due to the old starcaster's unpopularity, it was taken off the market faster than you can say dimebag darrell. Judging by his ammount of playing time, he does not have the old semi hollow starcaster. He has the pos costco-caster.

Amazing guitar for an amazing deal. I bought mine last year with a tri-guitar stand for $700-ish and it's incredibly fun to play. The only letback for me is that the humbuckers didn't come with covers on them so you have to buy and solder them on yourself/have someone do that for extra money. And recently, I found the guitar with everything I wanted on it so it's been sitting there looking pretty, although the other guitarist in my band plays the V since his guitar is messed up.

It's not really faded, just no clear coat. It's really nice, unless you like your guitars super shiny.

My Faded V has been great to me. Aside from a dirty pot (bridge volume), I've had no problems with it at all.

i was a bit skeptical at first becasue its so cheap
but its american made and a top notch guitar

i recently replaced the bridge pick-up for an sh-2 and now its a beast!

However the new ones are supposedly made in China so...careful

can anyone confirm this for me?

yeah after you get used to it its quite easy to play. I hate when people say that Flying V's are good just because they don't want to take the time to get used to it or have only played it once and they couldn't do it.

to the guy who reviewed on march 27th 08, I'm pretty sure it's a rose wood fret board.. unless your's is a different model than mine. only thing I don't like about the finish is you can easily see where the different pieces are put together.

It has a sort of nasally sound though on the higher frets because of the ebony fretboard probably

it has a mahogany fretboard, i own it.

The shop I work at just got a used one in I played it for an hour or so through a little tiny terror and a couple different local custom hiwatts (some dude in the next town over has a custom amp shop and we sell his stuff). This is a pretty solid axe I a/b'd it with a usa razorback, a mid level ml, and a cadillac and this thing more than held its own. Totally buying this thing on monday.

yeah its kinda sad that that the quality is droping.
I wouldnt mind paying a bit more just for the "name" but if it doesn't come with a good set up, then gibson can kiss my @@s.
i think i'll buy a nice PRS instead.

got one of these. love it to death!!! the neck is smooth as all hell, the pickups are versitle and amazing! i had some intonation problems at first but after a set up its fine. and considering i got it for 450 even with the setup it costs less than i would have gotten it new and a hell of a lot less than a standard gibson. i have no problem with it sitting down at all. in fact i like the classical postion, and i play i sitting down at least 50 percent of the time. the only problem is its hard to sit on flat surfaces and play unless you rest one of the horns on the surface but then the fretboard comes up to your shoulders, but im used to playing it really high up anyway.

gibson has gone way down, but there are still great gibsons out there. this one beat the shit out of the ESP EC 1000, the ALexi 600. and the Jackson DK2M, and the KE3, the only thing i liked a little better was the gibson standard explorer and a Jackson RR5, but i didnt have nearly enough money for those and this still held its own against guitars more than twice its price so i got it. i also have a gibson SG from 05 (or 06 i cant remember) i got for 800 because there was a ding in the headstock (it was so small it didnt even break the paint). its also been a great guitar. my guitar teacher said its one of the best standard gibsons hes played. theres no way in hell id pay the current prices of SGs though, those things went way up! they are nearly twice as much as i paid for mine. all in all i like gibsons guitars but i dont like them as a company.

i have one myself and it looks great. faded is probably the wrong word, and i believe it looks more like an instrument than the tacky shiny V's. i actually compared the two at the shop and whilst the shiny one was more expensive, it LOOKS cheaper.

Fine, then I'll say it. GIBSON'S QUALITY CONTROL SUCKS! My friend just bought a Gibson SG and I have NEVER seen such a poorly set up guitar! The TOM wasn't set up, two of the tuners were broken, and the nut fell right off when he tried to restring it.

Seriously, gibson quality has went way down. I have this guitar, and it's been a constant struggle to keep it working. I've retired this guitar and replaced with a PRS SE Santana and a Schecter Damien 6. This guitar gets owned by both of these.
