Greg Bennett Interceptor 2 Review

manufacturer: samick date: 05/08/2006 category: electric guitars
Greg Bennett Interceptor 2
The IC-2 has a hot humbucker pickup in the bridge and single coils in the middle and neck positions for a wide range of tones. It features a 5-way pickup selector switch, single master Volume and 2 Tone controls, tremolo bridge, and a bolt-on neck with a rosewood fingerboard. The transparent-finish oak top lets the grain of the wood show through. It looks incredible!

Features: The guitar was made in the early 2000's. it has 24 frets with a simple fixed bridge and a tremolo arm which is hard to use due to its poor quality except when pulling it down. Passive pickups, 5-way selector with a humbucker at the bridge and single coils in the middle and neck. The store gave a me a crap gig bag with it and a 1mm pick which really pissed me off. // 4

Sound: The sound is ok, not the best but it is deffinitly good for beginners. I use a Behringer Firebird GX108 and a home made 50 watt. The bridge pickup is good but only good with distortion. The single coil neck pickup is ok and the middle is noisy and not that great. The channel switch is noisy and pisses me off when changing from pickup to pickup, it crackles after a few months of use. // 4

Action, Fit & Finish: Like I said before the bridge is pretty hard to use. The tuning pegs are pretty loose on the d string and the gig bag doesn't help. The guitar is a bit too heavy so if you have one don't try jumping and/or steve vai/malmsteen spinning guitar tricks. The finish is a silvery grey and also comes in a black, red and blue. // 3

Reliability & Durability: The guitar will withstand live play but will not last. Its a bit too heavy so if your using a material strap it will ware it away pretty quickly (don't use an expensive strap with this guitar). // 5

Impression: I usually play music which includes Nirvana, Creed, Green Day, Dream Theater. The guitar survives most of these. For me as a first guitar this guitar was perfect and I enjoyed it for about a year and a half, but compared to other beginners, I think I made a good choice. I chose this guitar because I thought it looked good and cheap. It was different from most others. // 6

Why would you review the guitar in comparison with the gig bag? Otherwise fine.

Samick makes excellent beginner guitars, considering the quality you get for the price. And the problems you had with it aren't the same problems a beginner would have. This guitar definetely should NOT be purchased by any experienced guitarists... unless they need something to smash on stage instead of their Les Paul :p (Why the hell would you even jokingly compare them??? lol)

For the life of me, I can't understand why everyone believes Greg Bennett Design guitars are only for beginners. I've been playing for 11-12 years now, and I bought a TR4... I love it more than my Gibson Les Paul Special. It came stock with Grover tuners, Duncan pickups and a pearl finish nicer than anything I've ever seen. It's lightweight for long gigs, and shreds faster than anything I've played. Greg Bennett knows guitars, and they are not only for beginners! I'll support Greg Bennett for life!

Agreed. My first guitar was a Greg Bennett Interceptor, it came with a Floyd Rose, 24-frets instead of the usual 22's that I find where I live, and it's extremely durable. I busted it once, but I just recently got it fixed, and now im gonna customize it and play with it a lot. The pickups do need to be changed, but other than that, it's really a nice guitar.

My brother owns a Samick Torino, and I'm jealous xD I agree that some of the lower end guitars may suck, but the set neck ones and higher end bolt-necks(like the Floyd equippedinterceptor) I hear are pretty nice.

6stringdisaster :
i got an Interceptor1 and it's my first guitar, i'm fully satisfied with the balance, the neck, the pickups obviously need to be changed, but in general it's much better than the guitars of the same price category (Washburn, Flight)

If you don't want crap don't pay for crap. I payed $399 for my Greg Bennet and it's pretty nice. I prefer it over a Gibson SG, but I'm not sure about Les Pauls. Probably prefer that price over a Les Paul price.

i have one, and i love it, somebody says it doesnt compare to their les paul, which i think is crap, i hate les pauls. The tremolo arm is really bad lol. The clean sound is perfect, and with distortion, its great for stuff like vai and satriani.

People crack me up. Do some research on guitars. Samick makes most of the cheaper guitars for other companies.Just like because it has Chevy on the hood don't mean it's a Chevy. I've even read people recomending a Samick MADE guitar(under **** NAME)over the SAME guitar(under there OWN name;Samick).God it's funny!! I think ALL Samick's are Greg Bennett name now, if I'm not mistaken. Peace!!
