Scorpion Review

manufacturer: Schecter date: 11/21/2011 category: Electric Guitars
Schecter: Scorpion
Very comfortable to play and has a very unique tone. The comfort and feel have made this my favourite guitar over other guitars which may have better tone but never the same comfort.

Price paid: C$ 800

Purchased from: Local Store

Features: Made in Korea 2001 - 2003. 24 jumbo frets (25.5 inch scale). Maple Neck. Mahogany body. Black satin finish. Hardtail bridge (the best in the world). Grover tuners. The devil headstock is a nice touch and the guitar looks like Iommi's guitar, but with a more evil look and a better bridge. Customized with active EMG pickups. The stock pickups were Duncan designed humbuckers which had a more Vintage Rock tone. // 8

Sound: Works well for metal or anything else you play. Since the mahogany they used for the body is very soft the tone lacks some mid range and body. It still cuts through a mix and can squeal. Since this guitar was built for Baritone playing, it will sound bigger and rounder with thicker strings. However, lighter strings work very well and stay in tune well because the nut slots are cut wide. A lighter string can easily slide through the nut slot. // 7

Action, Fit & Finish: The factory set up was very good but I did make some adjustments for my preference of lighter strings. It came with a set of 13 - 60 strings tuned in B. This gives you the option of trying any string guage lighter than that. It opens up the door for trying various tunings. // 10

Reliability & Durability: I have had this for 8 years and it has held up very well. The hardware choice is the best I've seen from most guitars. The strap buttons have never come loose and the Grover tuners are rock solid. The pickup rings will have to be replaced if you play heavily or have changed pickups a few times. // 10

Overall Impression: Very comfortable to play and has a very unique tone. The comfort and feel have made this my favourite guitar over other guitars which may have better tone but never the same comfort. It would have been better if they had used some harder/denser wood for the body. The low bridge and straight angled neck give it a great tone inspite of the soft body wood. // 9
