Features: The Divided by 13 JJN 50/100 is a classic single channel Marshall-style amp with clean headroom for days. The JJN is simple and elegant with standard Bass, Mid, Treble, Presence, Volume, and Master Volume controls. One nice added bonus for this amp is it's push/pull gain boost feature for some extra dirt when needed. The power section is equipped with an EL34 quartet that can be powered down to 50 watts for earlier breakup and volume reduction. // 9
Sound: The JJN 50/100 is one of the most honest and transparent amps I've ever played. Vintage amp lovers will immediately recognize the 60s Marshall vibe with the amp's classic midrange breakup. However, the JJN 50/100 has a tighter low end, clearer top end, and an overall smoother midrange sound than most Vintage Marshalls. The MV knob (Master Volume) works very well for keeping the overdriven amp from reaching ridiculous volume levels. Heavier gain can be achieved by turning the MV' down and the Volume' up. One testament to the responsiveness of this amp is the tone pots. The tone controls on the JJN are highly sensitive, musical, and intuitive. It's pretty hard to get a bad tone out of this thing. The top end can get a bit harsh if heavily overdriven with single coils but it's nothing some standard tweaking won't fix.
With all of the clean headroom the JJN makes for a great stomp box amp. The general tone this amp generates is very pleasing to ear and dynamic which is great for overdrive pedals as well as modulation and delay. Check out the SPF Cali Quake Tremolo review as well as the Mod Tone Vintage Analog Delay. Both of those reviews were also recorded with the same amp and guitar and you can really hear the intricacies of the pickups/pedal marriage.
it's important to realize that the JJN is not just a clean and loud pedal launcher. Plug straight into this thing and turn it up to achieve a glorious overdrive with all of the Vintage vibe in the world with some nice modern clarity. // 9
Reliability & Durability: The quality of the Divided by 13 amps is really something to marvel after. Everything from the knobs to the covering to the back panel is solid, clean, and attractive. As far as reliability goes, I reviewed this amp in a music store so I was unable to give it the full road test. // 10
Overall Impression: The Divided by 13 JJN 50/100 amp head really is a special find. At it's 2800 USD value it definitely aims towards the upper tier of guitarists, and a really great player is going to have his/her ideas and passages translated clearly and dynamically. There's really nothing about it that isn't phenomenal. Beautiful, classic, simple... Awesome. // 10
