XXL Head Review

manufacturer: Peavey date: 09/28/2012 category: Guitar Amplifiers
Peavey: XXL Head
100 watt, 3 channel, solid state amp head. I like the diverse variety of sounds it can produce, like Dime-tone overdrive to Van Halen bassness to 60's era jangle.

Price paid: $ 150

Purchased from: Ebay

Features: 100 watt, 3 channel, solid state amp head. I play metal and rock. The built in reverb isn't high quality. In Clean, the reverb really distorts and crackles the sound. I wish the reverb was footswitchable. Comes with three button foot switch, two for channels and one for effects loop. // 7

Sound: The overdrive channels are diverse. The Lead channel can get nice crunch and blues sound, and the Ultra channel has very powerful gain. I use a ported cab, and this amp can really put out bass when you need it to. The clean channel is clean with single coil pickups, but with humbuckers it can get muddy. // 8

Reliability & Durability: This amp has never failed me. I got it in very used condition, but all knobs and controls are great. // 8

Overall Impression: This is a discontinued amp, but I'd search for another if I lost this one. Been playing for a few years, and this amp has never disappointed. I like the diverse variety of sounds it can produce, like Dime-tone overdrive to Van Halen bassness to 60's era jangle. // 9
