Octave level controls the volume of the octave note produced by the pedal, Direct Level controls the volume of the direct guitar signal, and Tone changes the tone of the octave note a bit.

It's very very user friendly, there's volume, treble, bass and grunge knobs. It uses 1x9V battery, which is easily changable with/from the compartament at the top, or you can use an AC adaptor.

The FX86 is the premier distortion for the death metal guitarist. There is no way of getting more low end or more distortion in this life. That?s why it?s called the death metal pedal. Although it creates an unnatural amount of distortion, your solos still cut through with amazing clarity.
