This is a lush chorus Reissue of the affordable analog chorus pedal popularized by Kurt Cobain. Depth and Rate controls create the finest analog chorus sounds, from clear, rich and dimensional to warm pulsating warbles. |

Ease of Use: This stompbox is ridiculously easy. The only thing on it is a rate dial and a depth Switch, but you can get an amazing variety of sounds out of it. It adds sparkle to anything clean, thickens distortion, and lead lines Shine through. For just having two controls, it can go from a subtle sound to something like a Leslie or a tremolo channel. The manual was only a sheet of paper, but it explained everything well enough for me to get a good understanding of it. // 10
Sound: I'll be the first to say that I'm not ridiculously good at guitar, but this pedal really adds something to my playing. I have an Epiphone LP Special, a Crate FXT 30, and a Dunlop 535Q Crybaby, and it really fills out my sound. I've used it for shows, it was perfect for that spacy sound in Tenacious D's "Wonderboy" and gives more clarity and depth to anything distorted. The only drawback about the stompbox it that it can be noisy at times. Sometimes there's a pop when I click it on, and you can hear a hiss and a hum when you turn the rate up real high. But that's only when you're not playing; it's not noticeable at all when you're actually playing. // 9
Reliability & Durability: Holy crap this thing is a tank. I think my foot would break before this thing does. I've used it at shows w/o backup, but with the AC adapter. Definitely pick one up. // 10
Impression: This is a damn good pedal. It's perfect if you're an intermediate guitarist, for the price, the sound, and the wide array of things you can do with it, you can't go wrong. There's no need for anything more expensive, it gets the job done and then some. If it was stolen, I'd definitely get it again. It's a simple layout to get a really complex sound. // 10

Ease of Use: This is a pretty simple pedal, one knob, and a depth Switch, which is really all you need. I didn't recieve a manual, but with the simple set-up there's no need. The knob controls the speed of the chorus and the Switch chooses between a deep and shallow chorus. // 9
Sound: I'm currently using my Telecaster thru this line: guitar-> Big Muff Pi -> Small Clone -> Bad Monkey Overdrive -> Fender FM100 amp. This pedal isn't noisy at all, and the effect sounds absolutely awesome, keeping the original tone of your guitar. The volume is perfect it just raises it the slightest bit, but it's barely noticeable. A very popular user of the Small clone is Kurt Cobain you can get Come as you are, and SLTS sounds very easily, just keep the depth Switch up and adjust the knob. This is a very handy pedal in enhancing parts of your own songs. This pedal makes feedback a lot of fun with distortion. I'm having fun experimenting with it and finding places in my bands songs to include it. This pedal will fulfill your chorus needs. // 10
Reliability & Durability: Haven't had it for too long, got it used so the best I can say is it still works. Electro-Harmonix makes their pedals well so I would go into my gigs without a back-up. I definitely trust EHX with their pedals. With the metal casing it has, it should last quite awhile. // 10
Impression: My band plays grunge, garage/alternative, obviously this pedal fits in perfectly. I've been playing for a year and 8 months, I own a fair share of equipment and this pedal is very well welcomed. If it were stolen or lost I'd buy it again for sure it adds a lot to my songs and playing. I love the way it fits in with my other pedals I can get many sounds out of it and am enjoying every minute it's on. // 10

Ease of Use: This pedal is extremely easy to use. It has one knob, and a depth switch. You can get a lot of interesting sounds with this pedal. And compared to the Boss chorus pedals, this one blows them out of the water. I've tried the Boss CE20, the twin chorus pedal. it's just way to complicated and it kills your tone. But not with the Small Clone, keeps your tone and real simple. The manual isn't great but there's isn't much to explain so. It just briefly explains rate and depth. // 10
Sound: I'm using a Gibson Sg and a Epiphone Zakk Wylde LP Custom. I use a Boss SD-1 Overdrive, and this pedal handles it just great, keeps the tone the way it is and just adds that lush chorus. You can make it sound like a 12 string guitar with the knob at the right dail. Trust me just go try it out and you'll be blown away. The other chorus pedals just can't top it, and it's only 80 bucks. // 10
Reliability & Durability: This thing is made all out of metal, so it is very dependable. I have the adaptor for it, so I don't know how's the battery life. But if you get the adaptor you're better off, don't have to worry about batteries. I wouldn't need a backup for it. I think if I dropped it, it would be fine. // 10
Impression: I play a lot of blues and some metal. This pedal is great for that. It can give you a lot of experimental sounds. I've been playing for about 2 1/2 years, I also have a Crybaby From Hell, Boss SD1, and Boss DS1. Again runs great with this too. I had the Boss CE20 before this, it's so much more complicated, to many knobs and just kills your tone. I also tried the other two Boss chorus pedals, but compared to those, the Small Clone blows them out of the water. I would definetly buy this again if it were stolen. This thing is just perfect, there's no more for me to say. // 10

Purchased from: Guitar, Amp and Keyboard
Ease of Use: It's easy enough to get a good sound. With only 2 controls, a Depth and a Rate control it is pretty surprising with the amount of sounds you can get. I just always have it on a classic chorus tone with the rate at about 10 o' clock and the Depth control in the 1st position. I haven't modded it because it simply does not need modding. All you'll do is just make it complicated and hard to use and probably mess up it's nice sound. Overall, really easy to use. // 10
Sound: I'm currently using it along side a Big Muff and a BOSS DS-1 running through a Marshall MG15DFX. As for guitars, it's an Epiphone G310 SG, a Squier Strat with a Duncan JB in the bridge and a Fender CD100CE acoustic. It really is a very "Natural" sounding chorus probably because it's analog. I got this mainly because I play Nirvana's stuff, and he used this pedal as well, and you can't get closer to his chorusy clean tones with this. It is not a weak chorus sound in the slightest compared to some of the Boss chorus pedals that are quite complicated and just don't (In my opinion) sound as good. If you turn the rate up there is some more very grungy clean sounds in there. One thing I love about this pedal is that it's kinda 3 effects in 1. If you have the rate quite low, you get a similar sound to a Phaser, which I do sometimes find useful. Obviously you've got your chorus tones but then rolling up the rate some more you get some quite good flanger sounds in there as well. I find it a very useful pedal and it's got some brilliant sounds. // 9
Reliability & Durability: It seems reliable. It has a metal casing so hopefully won't break any time soon. I can depend on it. Yer, I don't see a need for a backup, because this is one of the best chorus pedals and probably the best for my style so I wouldn't buy some other chorus pedal and certainly wouldn't buy the same pedal again when I've already got one. It is reliable and shouldn't really break or anything after just one show. Should last for ages. // 9
Impression: I got this way back in March mainly because Kurt Cobain used it but also for some of my own stuff. I've been playing for coming up to 3 years now and find it really useful. If it were stolen I'd go and buy another one because it is essential in what I play. It makes anything sound cool. I love it's simplicity and how easy it is to use - 2 controls with all those brilliant sounds! I sometimes wish it had a separate dial for the depth so you could get more of a range of depth rather than just deep or shallow, though you can control alot with the rate. Overall, Great sounding, easy to use and not ridiculously expensive either. // 9

Ease of Use: The Electro-Harmonix Small Clone is by no means small. In physical terms and in sound, to top everything off the pedal comes with only 2 controls a Depth switch and a Rate knob. I’m not too sure whether it is a stroke of genius or lack thereof that this was created with. One thing is a definite this pedal is striking and gives you all you need to create thick dripping chorus.
The Small Clone again leaves a rather larger than normal footprint on a pedal board at around 85 millimetres wide and approximately 132 millimetres in length. This may at first not sound like much but compared to other mass produced pedals it is on the overweight side. Access to the battery is simple, however I found everything a little bit tight as both input and output jacks along with the power supply are all on the one face at the back of the pedal which made things awkward for pancake based patch leads. This is of course a very minor hindrance that is quickly forgotten about once you have it plugged in and creating beautiful sounds.
Of course the only actual control you have over this is via the Depth and Rate knob. However this still gives you enough control to create a few varied sounds. The pedal comes with a quick cheat sheet explaining the basics of operation although I am fairly confident that most people shouldn’t need this. // 8
Sound: The sound is where this pedal stands alone among the hundreds if not thousands of other Chorus effect pedals. The scope and sweep of the rate dial can change the effect from a barely noticeable shimmer to a dripping wet shimmering. The depth switch also produces a noticeable effect on the tone by giving it a deeper fuller sound. Let’s not forget this was the pedal used in Nirvana’s "Come As You Are" so achieving similar watery tones is a piece of cake.
The pedal is also not choosy, it sounds great regardless of guitar and amp. I tested this out on a solid state amp and an all valve amp, the only difference being more warmth in the tone coming from the all valve amp. The effect sounds great across various guitars as mentioned above. I tested a Schecter with active pick-ups, a Stratocaster clone with single coils and an Ibanez also with active pick-ups. I couldn’t fault the tone on any of the equipment I tested it out on.
Last but not least the pedal is true bypass and had no noticeable effect on my tone nor any noticeable hum or buzz during use on any of the tests I performed. All in all most users will be very satisfied with the quality of sound that this pedal can produce. // 10
Reliability & Durability: Electro-Harmonix has constructed a solid pedal. I have personally owned the pedal for a few months and have not experienced any technical faults. The Small Clone has been made from a metal casing although not die cast as is like some of their other offerings such as the Metal Muff however it still feels sturdy enough to withstand regular gigging. With the input and power jacks being on the back I don’t see this pedal receiving too much damage from the more clumsier among us. // 8
Impression: The Electro-Harmonix Small Clone is one amazing chorus pedal. It may not be for everyone but those who have fallen in love with it won’t easily divorce this pedal anytime soon. The controls are diabolically simple which in after thought is genius (to answer my own question) after all what more would you really need when you can create such luscious sounds. The pedal is sleek and eye appealing and the sound is beautiful and honestly needs to be heard and experienced be truly appreciated. If you are in the market for a chorus then the Small Clone should be a serious contender for your pedal board space. // 9

Ease of Use: This pedal is so easy to get a great sound. I just turned it on and twisted the rate knob for about 10 seconds and I got the sound I wanted. I think there usually is a manual but I bought it used and it didn't have it in there. But to be honest, you're never going to need it! It's so easy to used. Just a depth Switch and a rate knob. // 9
Sound: I use this pedal through a HT-5 mini stack and I use a Jackson Demmelition King V (EMG 81/60) and I have used an EX-50 through it. I also use a Zakk Wylde Wah pedal. This pedal is not noisy at all. At the most it might add a tad more noise on high gain settings but it's not noticable (at least not for me) when playing. This chorus always sounds amazing. You can make it sound very transparent and not very noticable or you can make it sound like crazy waves. And you can get anything in between. This pedal sounds very watery and quite shimmery which is just what I wanted! I bought this for the James Hetfield clean sound from Metallica and it hits the mark perfectly. I also sometimes use it to get a Zakk Wylde sound and it sounds great for it. Especially with the Zakk Wyle Wah aswell! Some people complain about a popping noise when turning it on but maybe they got a bad one because there is no popping with this one! // 9
Reliability & Durability: This pedal seems very reliable. The case is metal and feels quite heavy and reliable. I would definately use it at a gig without a backup! I don't gig but if I do start, I wouldn't take a backup. I have only dropped it once or twice and it didn't do any damage at all. This pedal is like a brick! Except not as heavy... // 9
Impression: For that James Hetfield chorus type clean sound, it seems to suit it very well! It also is great for the Zakk Wylde solo sound. I have been playing for about 3 years. If it were stolen or lost, I would go out and buy another one straight away! There is nothing about this pedal that I hate except for maybe the actuall swith to Switch it on is quite hard on bare feet but not that noticable but I'm just nit-picking, this pedal is everything I wanted and there is nothing wrong with it at all! I did compare it to quite a few different pedals such ass the Boss chorus pedals and the Tonerider pedal but this seemed to be the most popular one and I think it sounded the best for what I needed! // 9

Ease of Use: Has only one knob for rate and a Switch for depth so there is always get a good sound the unit hasn't been upgraded.I don't know anything about the serial numbers or stuff like that I got it off ebay and it just came in a wooden box. Very easy to get a good sound out of rate knob controls the rate of modulation and depth controls the modulation depth. // 10
Sound: The best sounding chorus there is not much control overthe chorus but sounds great.Perfect for Nirvana chorus tone even when played through a Peavey Rage 158 works great on bass too much better than the Boss choruses. The pedal is analog and I hate digital effects. I am using an Epiphone les paul into a Peavey Rage 158 or Vox pathfinder should be getting a valve jr soon though. It isn't noisy unless the battery is dying. // 10
Reliability & Durability: I would rely on the pedal but the battery clip is fragile so changing batteries takes some patience otherwise the battery clip will snap. This has happened twice. Nowhere near as sturdy as the Boss choruses. The pedal has a metal front which has rusted a bit and is screwed on to a plastic back as long as you don't hit it with a hammer or something stupid it will last. // 5
Impression: I play blues and Grunge lots of mudhoney, soundgarden etc and some buddy guy and hendrix and stuff like that does nirvana stuff great. I love the sound of the pedal but I wish it would be a bit more sturdy. If it gotstolen I would buy another one they are cheap but sound great. I chose this pedal because of price and lushness. My favourite feature is the rate knob because you can go from no modulation to very fast chorus. I wish it was a bit more sturdy and gave a bit more control over depth. I play with an Epiphone les paul into a Peavey Rage 158 or Vox pathfinder. // 10

Ease of Use: This pedal is very easy to use. It has the usual input and output jacks, a Switch changing the depth, the Switch to turn the pedal on and the knob to change the amount of waves. The manual tells you everything you need to know. I haven't upgraded this pedal so the sound is all original. Very basic knowledge needed to operate this pedal. // 9
Sound: I am using this pedal through a Pignose 60R studio, and the Guitar I am using is a Gould les paul. This pedal can produce some very cool sounding feedback it you have the midrange all the way up on your amp. If you move the knob around to change the waves its easy to get a Black hole sun sound or a come as you are sound. The sound it produces (the chorus) is very nice. // 9
Reliability & Durability: I would definatly gig with this pedal. It feels very solid and could take a good beating! It has been dropped many times and it still sounds as good as it did when I first got it. It is made out of a strong feeling metal though I'm not entirely sure what metal it is. The input and output jacks are on the back so its Not easy to accidently step on wires and snap them. // 8
Impression: I play lots of Grunge and punk, occasionally alternative. I compared this to the Boss CH-1, and I must say I prefered this pedal. If this were lost or stolen I would definatly get it again. My favourite features of this pedal is the depth changer. It gives such a wider range of sounds with such a simple and easy to use pedal. // 9

Ease of Use: This pedal couldn't be simpler. It's basically Just a 2 way Switch for depth and a knob for speed. It's incredibly easy to get a good lush sound out of it, 5 minutes and I had some great tones nailed. This thing was much more similar then the 2 Boss Choruses I tried, The CE-5 and CH-1. // 10
Sound: This thing is brilliant. I'm running an Epiphone LP Custom into a Boss DS-1, into the Small Clone and into my Vox Valvetronix AD50VT on a clean channel. With my setup I nailed a range of tone's including Kurt Cobain's Come As You Are tone and the intro to Silverchair's Tomorrow. This thing has some brilliant tones inside it. I tried 2 Boss chorus pedals and this thing smokes them, especially when it comes to Grunge. Even if you just want to add a little shimmer to a few chords this thing sounds great. Best of all this thing is True Bypass! Not some tone sucking annoying pedal. This doesn't effect your tone at all when off. // 10
Reliability & Durability: I could definately depend on this thing at a gig without a backup. It's quite solid with a metal casing. It might not be quite as solid as say a Boss buy it's definately strong. More then enough to handle being stepped on. The bad thing I can say is that it doesn't accept a normal Boss type power supply. It's reversed polarity but all that means is you just need to buy a $5 adaptor. Planet Waves and 1 Spot both make them. // 8
Impression: I've been playing guitar for about 2 yrs and play a range of music from jazz to Grunge to metal. This thing is perfect for me. If this was stolen I would probably cry for an hour and then would go out and buy another one, no questions about it. I love the tone's that you can get out of this thing and it's simplicity. Who said a pedal needs to be complex to sound good? It's definately not true here. Whilst saying that's it's simple it is still very versatile, Probably more then the 2 Boss pedals I tried, it goes from incredibly subtle to incredibly pscyhadelic, almost a rotary effect. If you like Rock and Grunge then buy this, it is probably the best on the market for it's price. // 10

Ease of Use: This thing is an incredible little chorus pedal for the incredible price of 84 u.s. dollars new. I didn't receive a manual with mine since I bought it used, but there really is a need for one with the simple options of a depth Switch and rate knob is very easy to use right out of the box. Mine is all stock used. Overall I can't see how you can't use this thing. // 10
Sound: Right now I'm using a Marshall MG halfstack with it, but I've tried it with a lot of different amps. It goes with the amps sound, it makes the MG sound pretty good, but with better and better amps it just keeps sounding better and better. I use a MIM HSS Strat, and a ESP LTD EX-260 Explorer with it, and have tried it with a Epi Les Paul as well. The only issue with noise I have with it (which is really quite humorous anyway) is when I plug my pedalboard in at my friends house into a Kustom 2x12 combo and for some reason, sometimes when I turn the volume up a lot and first click it on it makes a loud popping noise just once, and then is fine. More strange than anything, and not a problem, just kind of a fluke thing. This pedal truly does sound good on almost every setting. I can hit the tones of Metallica, Nirvana, and David Gilimour of Pink Floyd very easily, it's very easy to make the pedal sound like a Leslie speaker with the rate knob cranked up, plus it's very easy to get some very spooky tones as well. Probably my favorite setting is to have the rate knob down at about 9-10 o'clock, and have the depth Switch up on the more intense mode, or down on the less intense mode, either one works. This produces a nice warm sound very easily, and spices up your cleans nicely as well. // 10
Reliability & Durability: I can depend on this thing enormously, possibly my most durable pedal. I would gig a lot with this thing without a backup. // 10
Impression: This thing fits perfectly for Grunge, Thrash, Classic Rock, Hard Rock, etc., you name it, and it will work. I own a nice pedalboard with this along with a Boss DD-7, MXR Phase 90, EHX Little Big Muff, ISP Decimator, Dunlop Crybaby Wah, Boss TU-2 pedal for right now. Yes I have an MG right now, but I plan on purchasing a JCM 900 combo in the near future, so I'm not a dummy, I know my stuff to a degree. I previously owned a Boss CH-1 Super Chorus, and was somewhat dissapointed in it. It does have more control over the sound than the Small Clone, but it just plain doesn't sound as good to me. I had it for about 4-5 months before my friend Who also plays guitar purchased a used Small Clone and showed it to me. I remember that day very vividly. We were playing through a small Peavey Rage 158, a practice amp that is probably better than the MG, but not by a whole lot. I just really remember clicking it on and having it sound really quite awesome, just being completely blown away. The next week I got the Small Clone, and turned around and sold my CH-1. Never looked back since.
I would most likely buy this pedal again if stolen or lost. The only thing holding me back would be the big Polychorus pedal that EHX also makes, which looks quite intriguing. I like EHX's taste in chorus, so if the Polychorus was really just a big version of the Small Clone with more features than I might be inclined to buy that. But at this point the Small Clone is a very solid choice. The only thing I wish that it would have would be a 3 position Switch for the depth knob, with a high intense, normal intense, and low intensity settings instead of just the usual two. Overall, if you want a nice simple, versatile, chorus pedal for cheap than look into this pedal. // 10

Ease of Use: The legendary pedal of choice of Kurt Cobain. Lucky for all us simple minded people, this thing is definately easy to use. 'Rate' knob controls the 'warble-rate' (low or high, tends to be a bit bassy) and the 'depth' switch controls the extensiveness of the selected rate effect. Also switches on/off bass sound from the pedal, as I have noticed. The manual: a simple, straight forward pink sheet of paper. Easy to use out of the box without instruction, but I'm sure it'll come in handy sometime or another. A very easy to use, and straight forward Chorus pedal. // 10
Sound: Current setup is a Schecter Gryphon to DF-7 Distortion to the Small Clone to Line 6 Spider II 15 amp. With both of my pedals on, it tends to be a bit noisy depending on where I angle my guitar in accordance with my amp, which is strange. The definition of the pedal's frequency rate (warble-rate) sound could be in a better range but from low to high, it's not that bad. Considering I play mostly Nirvana, this is the perfect pedal for it. Overall, this chorus pedal is kick-ass for everything that it is, a simple sounding pedal. Great sounding, but simple to control the outcome. // 8
Reliability & Durability: At this point in time, the pedal looks solid. I'm a little skeptical of the soft-looking metal top, but if it worked in mud for Kurt, I think it will do fine with my minor abuse of my gear. I find this an interesting construction for a pedal. The bottom is black and leather looking, but is really metal. The top is sweet looking, one sexy looking pedal. I'm sort of afraid of having to change the 9V battery it takes because the slot is metal that you must bend up to put the battery in. Well, I doubt I would be able to purchase another one of these or another chorus pedal in general, so no back-up for me. That's what I have my effects-filled amp for. // 10
Impression: This is a simplistic, easy to control, and bang for the buck pedal. It's a guitarist's dream for a pedal like this, the design, the look, the simplicity, everything about it makes me want to drool. If it were stolen, I would defocate in the theif's mouth. I have fallen in love with this pedal, and can barely complain at all about it. If you love Nirvana, buy this pedal. If you love a great pedal for cheap, also, buy this pedal. Please, I beg you to get this pedal! // 10

Ease of Use: This pedal originally came with a piece of paper describing how the pedal worked and what the knob did, but with its easy of use, this was not necessary. This pedal has one knob and one depth switch making it easy to find new sounds and settings (and also easy to remember them). There aren't any bad settings for this pedal, it all depends on your playing style. // 10
Sound: Most of the time I use the Small Clone with a Fender Telecaster or Jag-Stang out of a Fender Super 60 and Marshall MG100HDFX. This pedal produces an amazing sound from my rig. With the depth switch in the up position and the knob at 12 o'clock, I can get the signature Nirvana sound; and with the switch down, it sounds just like the effect used on Black Hole Sun. This pedal is also very good with distortion but not as good with Overdrive. I also pair this with a Visual Sounds H2O echo pedal to get a more unique sound out of it. You can also get an amazing sound out of it if you turn the knob all the way to the right, I use this setting to give solos a new edge. // 8
Reliability & Durability: This pedal is very strong. Although I have multiple chorus pedals as backups, I never think twice about this getting damaged. This pedal has survived many wild nights and mosh pits and still comes out unscathed. The pedal itself is very light, but the metal casing is very protective. // 10
Impression: I've been playing in a band that does punk and older Grunge music for about three years and had the Small Clone most of the time. I do own several other chorus pedals but this, along with my other E-H gear, is the best of the bunch. It's ease of use and durability make this a great pedal for beginners and pros alike. If this were stolen, I would immediatly purchase another, seeing as how I use this for my band's signature sound. // 10

Ease of Use: I recieved this as a gift a while ago, and I immediately plugged it in. After about a minute I was getting great sound. With one rate and one depth switch, you just need to do a bit of tinkering before you figure out what each thing does. // 10
Sound: I run my cheap guitars, an Oscar Schmidt OE30 Delta King (at low volume) and my Samick Superstrat ripoff (at high volume), Through a Vox wah, a Big Muff and then the Small Clone, through a Marshall MG. This Produces no noise whatsoever, unless I'm playing my OE-30 with the Big Muff on at high volume (the guitar isn't properly grounded, and the Big Muff causes the noise). The Effects can range from weak, if you have the depth switch down, to strong, depth switch up, but it always sounds great, I use mine with the depth switch up and the rate knob between 9:00 and 12:00. The only way you can get this to sound bad with any of my other effects is if I crank the knobs to 11. // 9
Reliability & Durability: The casing on this is indestructable. It's constructed of nickel and all the parts are tough. I have thrown this off walls, out of windows, all over the place, and it still works, I think that the army whould get EHX to build their tanks. Thus said, I would definetly use this without a backup. My only complaint is the rubber feet that they use. They use cheap rubber feet with weak glue and they all fell off mine within a week. I think that EHX should switch to the rubber feet used by Dunlop and Vox, or go back to their old ridged rubber pads. // 8
Impression: I play everything from blues, to Grunge and all points in between, and I seem to find that the red indicator light is always on, I can always find a use for this. I have been playing for about 4 years. I have no regrets from this pedal. If I lost this pedal, I would buy another one and put it on expedited, next day shipping, this thing is critical to my music. I love the sound on this pedal, of course, and I love the construction, and I hate the rubber feet and the battery life, but a 9v power supply is only $10. My favorite feature is definetely the construction, built like a tank. I compared this pedal to many other chorus pedals at the local music store, Boss, Ibanez, DigiTech, Danelectro, none of them have anything on this pedal. // 9
