G-Sharp Review

manufacturer: TC Electronic date: 09/07/2012 category: Guitar Effects
TC Electronic: G-Sharp
The G-Sharp is one of the most user friendly multi fx I know. All parameters are visible, no double pots or stuff like that, just 2 fx engines: 15 types of reverb with dedicated settings, and 15 types of delay and modulation FX.

Ease of Use: The G-Sharp is one of the most user friendly multi fx I know. All parameters are visible, no double pots or stuff like that, just 2 fx engines: 15 types of reverb with dedicated settings, and 15 types of delay and modulation FX. But despite all this simplicity, you can still go into preset mode and store up to 99 settings. Those are midi accessible, so it also makes for a great live rig. In my opinion absolutely awesome, you can have your plug and play fx unit at home or your fully programmed midi rack fx unit for gigs. Top notch there. Also has some great tweaking buttons and switches, so you can for example run the 2 fx engines in either parallel or serial mode. Very practical if you use delay and reverb. Can be footswitchable via the TC G-Switch. Manual is very good. Just the kill dry is something a bit bitchy at times. // 8

Sound: I use an Engl Ritchie Blackmore with a Peavey XXX cab and a Schecter Hellraiser Special with Seymour Duncan full shreds. The reverbs are all pretty much perfect. With the parameters available and the 15 types you get almost any reverb sound out of this unit, and all settings will sound great! Only downside is the lack of a modulated reverb, but that doesn't hurt too much. The delays are TC standard: perfect. All of them! The ducking delay here is one of the best ones I've played, really does what it's supposed to and does it the way I want it to do it. The tape is authentic and the clean delay is simply a 2290 as you know I. Compared to my TC Flashback I think the delays on the G-Sharp are a tiny bit better. The modulation fx: pretty good and useable. Nothing outstanding, they do sound good and do what they're supposed to. I'm not a general fan of modulation, I only use it at rare occasions, and for this it's perfect. I have all effects I need, and I have them in a cheap package. The quality of them is good, but fanatics will find probably better stuff. But since I rarely use them and mainly want them to be there in case I need them I can't say much more about it than they do the job for me and I see no need to upgrade. All in all a very good sounding unit, and the reverbs deserve a 12! I'll give it a 9 cause of outstanding delays and reverbs and unobtrusive (but not bad at all!) mod effects. // 9

Reliability & Durability: TC. Pretty much everything said. Sturdy build, and if you have it in a rack case nothing is going to happen to it anyways. Gig with no backup would be absolutely no issue. Even more that since it's just effects, you should be able to end the show even without it. Very unlikely to happen though. Ten is all I say // 10

Overall Impression: I play metal, but I use this thing almost exclusively for clean sounds. On distorted rythm I never use any effects, and on the lead sounds just a delay. Currently mainly my Flashback cause I have no option to footswitch the g-sharp yet and need the delay to be footswitchable. For the 60 bucks I paid I couldn't be happier, for that price even finding a pedal that does only one of the 15 reverbs in this quality would be impossible, and there are 15 of them! I say 9 overall, it does what it should and does it good and practical! And again, the reverbs are exceptional! // 9
