Zvex: Tremolo Probe
This is a hopped-up volume pedal with an SHO at it's heart, providing boost, and a copper probe plate like a Fuzz Probe.

Ease of Use: The Tremolo Probe is another unit in the line of Zvex Probe Pedals. In essence, its just a hopped-up volume pedal (oh, but the things that you can do with this pedal). The pedal has a built-in Super Hard On circuit which makes your tremolo or volume effect very sparkly and loud. This is a really loud pedal, BTW. There is one knob that controls the built-in Super Hard-On circuit and the copper plate controls volume. When you move your foot, hand or whatever closer to the plate, the sound gets louder. When you move it away, it gets quieter. This is a really, really cool feature, seeing how every other volume pedal in the world only allows you to go up or down with a footpedal. Not so with the Tremolo Probe! You can create soft tremolo effects by lightly moving your foot around (I usually balance it with my heel. Its surprisingly comfortable!), fast sputtering tremolo by tapping it really fast (this works great with drumming your fingers on the plate). You can also do pedal-steel effects and volume swells, which are really easy to do with this pedal. // 10

Sound: The sound is very straight-forward, compared to Zachary Vex's other pedals. You're basically gaining complete control over the signal coming from your guitar with this pedal. The tone of the effect is strengthend and sweetened by the Super Hard On circuit in the pedal (read my review for that pedal to get an idea of out it sounds). It is difficult to make your amp distort with this pedal (if your amp is already set to a clean setting. It rocks with a heavy or light Overdrive, too.) but you can make the pedal itself distort by turning it up all of the way. I don't know why anybody would do this with any Zvex pedal, seeing how they're the absolute loudest effects being made today. I guess if you have your master volume down pretty low it would be ok to crank the volume knob on the Tremolo Probe. The distorted sound is very raspy but smooth, with lots and lots of bite. // 10

Reliability & Durability: Zachary Vex has lifetime warranties on all of his products, even if they're used. If something goes wrong, he's there to fix it and have it back to you ASAP. He has great customer support and really will go the extra mile for you. // 10

Overall Impression: Its a great pedal, and I actually use it more often than I thought I would. If it were stolen I probably would have to get another one, simply because I've become addicted to volume pedals, this one in paticular because it allows me to shape my own, personalized tremolo with my hands or feet, or whatever. The tone is immaculate and the pedal is more than loud enough. I love it. // 10
