Against Me! at Ace of Spades in Sacramento CA on September 3rd 2012 was an overall fantastic show. Having seen Against Me! once before it is obvious that their sound has not changed and is still as raw and powerful as ever.

Sound: The venue was a buzz once doors opened. Everybody was talking about the amount of times they've seen Against Me! or the openers. Right around seven the opening band, Joyce Manor, took the stage. Dressed in t-shirts and jeans the four piece band ripped through loud, fast paced, punk songs that was a perfect opener for Against Me! One of the things that amazed me was the crowd. Joyce Manor had the crowd singing and moshing to their songs instantly. Second to take the stage was the two piece Andrew Jackson Jihad. Only having heard one of their songs previously I was interested in their sound. Having a two piece band featuring a single acoustic guitar hooked up to a small amp and a stand up bass changed the sound immensely from Joyce Manor. Transitioning from a classic punk sound to more of a punk folk sound was quite odd yet in terms of Against me! It was fitting. Their overall sound was unique combining punkish vocals with basic acoustic strumming was amazing for about the first 20 minutes. After that all of their songs began sounding the same and got a bit boring. However once again the crowd loved it. Finally Around 9 Against Me! had taken to the stage. Now the big question on everyone's mind was "how is Laura's voice going to change?" I can confidently say that Laura's voice was perfect and was able to still have that power that Against Me! is used to. The only issue was that occasionally Laura's vocals would be drowned out by the other instruments. However the instrumentals were flawless and provided enough raw energy to power through the whole set. // 9

Perfomance: As previously stated the audience loved every second of the show. Mosh pits broke out instantly and the power of Against Me! left everyone tired and sweaty, but still enjoyed the show. Everybody in the audience was able to sing to practically every song and it was an awesome feeling to hear a couple hundred people singing "Thrash Unreal". Unfortunately the band took minimal time to talk to the audience. Making only a few remarks about how great it was to be in Sacramento. There was one point in the show where Laura grabbed a piece of paper from a fan and it turned out to be a photograph which was great to see the band reaching out to their fans. The overall setlist was as follows: 01. Transgender Dysphoria Blues 02. Cliche Guevars 03. I still Lve you Julie 04. I was A Teenage Anarchist 05. Don't Lose Touch 06. White Crosses 07. Truw Trans Soul Rebel 08. Turn Those Clapping Hands Into Angry Ballad Fists 09. This Sh-t Rules 10. New Wave 11. Walking Is Still Honest 12. Pretty Girls 13. Drinking With The Jocks 14. Miami 15. Americans Abroad 16. Rice And Bread 17. Better Days 18. Black Me Out 19. Thrash Unreal 20. Pints Of Guinnesss Make You Stronger 21. Sink Florida Sink as well as Encore. // 8

Overall Impression: Against Me! at Ace of Spades in Sacramento CA on September 3rd 2012 was an overall fantastic show. The openers Joyce Manor and Andrew Jackson Jihad set the tone very well and Against Me! came in to put on a wild show. Having seen Against Me! once before it is obvious that their sound has not changed and is still as raw and powerful as ever. The wild nature of the audience was also a plus. With moshing, crowd surfing, and singing at the top of our lungs it was easy to see that the rest of the crowd loved the show as much as I did. Seeing Against Me! live was definitely worth the 15 dollar ticket I spent and I will gladly go to any more shows in the future. // 9
