Sound: It's Andy Mckee and Don Ross, you can't expect anything less than amazing skill and sound quality coming out of those guitars. Andy used his regular acoustic for most of his songs, his harp guitar, and he used a baritone guitar that belonged to Don Ross. Don Ross used his normal acoustic and the baritone. The music was great, of course. The one thing I didn't enjoy at all were the duets where Don Ross would ruin Andy Mckee's solo guitar songs by adding stupid unneccesary, non-complimenting parts. // 10
Perfomance: I enjoyed Andy Mckee very much. He played his songs solidly and it was very cool to see that right in front of me and not on youtube. I don't remember all the songs they played because I don't know many Don Ross songs but here's what I remember of their set: Drifting, Rylynn, The Friend I Never Met, Ebon Coast, Art Of Motion, 7/14, Tigh Trite Night, Dracula and Friends, Africa. The played for about 2 hours with a 15 minute break in between sets. I enjoyed almost every minute. Don Ross talked WAY too much and told really terrible joke pretty much the whole time. This definitely took away from the experience. He was also kind of rude the whole time. Talking down to people in the audience. Andy Mckee was very humble and excited that everyone enjoyed him. My favorite moment of this show was when I got Andy Mckee and Don Ross to sign my acouctic guitar. That was super exciting. I didn't really like Don Ross but I got him to sign it just in case I ever come into his music. He's a great guitarist but he is not up to part with Andy by any means. Don Ross has this effects pedal that he used way too much. Andy can make his guitar sound so full and gorgeous just with with his hands. I appreciated that. Also Don Ross was sloppy and often forgot parts of his songs. I know that wasn't his best show. Overall, Andy killed it and everyone loved him. Don Ross could've done better. // 8
Impression: I saw them at the Marion Theatre in Ocala, Florida on March 28, 2008. There was no opener. They just both came out at the same time and started playing. They trade off songs mostly and played a few duets from their duet album, The Thing That Came From Somewhere. One thing I loved about the show was the diverse crowd. I play in a metal/hardcore band and this was the first time I'd been to a show like this so I had no clue wht to expect. I walked in and there were people of all ages, ethnic background, and musical tastes. It was a really wonderful thing. It was exciting to see how wide of an audience these guys appeal to. The thing I hated was the lack of effort Don Ross put into his performance and his terrible jokes. I'd like to maybe give him a second chance because he has to be better than that. I walked in excited for both of them and Don Ross just lost it quickly and Andy Mckee gained a lot more respect from me just becuase he was so good yet still very humble as if it were his first time being complimented. The tickets were $18 for student and $20 for adult. The show was well worth the money. The most unforgettable moment was seeing Andy Mckee be so humble as everyone praised him and then him signing my guitar. I'm so excited that I get to wake up everyday to a couple of the most impressive acoustic guitarists signatures on my guitar. If Andy Mckee and Don Ross came back around, I would go. It was a great show anyway because I went to see Andy Mckee and he delivered. // 10
