Sound: Zakk Wylde I an excellent singer. The fact that he plays guitar and can sing so well only makes him look better. But at this concert, there must have been some sound problems, because after the first song (Stoned And Drunk), Wylde says "thank you" and it sounds like someone is squeezing his nutsack. This happened more than once and eventually near the middle of the show, the problem is finally fixed. The guitars sounded awesome and the drums were wonderful. // 6

Perfomance: I enjoyed the show because it was finally my chance to see Zakk Wylde up close and personal, something I'm sure almost any guitar player wouldn't mind doing at one point or another. Some of the better known songs that were played:

01. Stoned And Drunk - my favorite off of "The Blessed Hellride." Seeing him throw into that awesome solo was one of the most incredible things I've seen since I started playing guitar.
02. Destruction Overdrive - really got the crowd goin', I was basically in the 2nd row and by the time BLS got to this song, all the jerks from the back were pressing in around us and trying to get to the front. This posed a serious problem. The venue was very very small and was completely packed. There was quite literally a lack of oxygen for the number of fans in such a small space. A friend of mine passed out as a result.
03. Stillborn - everyone loves this song.
04. In This River - Zakk gave a long and very respectful speech regarding the late metal guitarist virtuoso "Dimebag" Darrell Lance Abbot. He then proceeded to play "In This River" and ended it with a solo lasting around 5 minutes.

Impression: 4/21/05, 7:00 Austin, Texas USA at the Backroom. Meldrum opened for BLS, a Swedish-American metal band who were actually pretty good. The greatest part of the show was seeing guitar legend Zakk Wylde tear up his fretboard in the "Stoned And Drunk" solo. The only downside to this show was the inconsiderate jerks stuck in the back that tryed to force themselves to the front of the venue. For only $25.00, the show was more than worth it. I'd go again any day. The greatest part for me, was when I turned and noticed the bassist, licking a guitar pick, and slapping it into the hand of my good friend's girlfriend. Give me a date and a location, I'll be there! // 8
