Sound: Circle The Sky is a local band in Houston, Texas. They're an experimental blend of hardcore and electronica. They had two guitarists, one of which was the singer, a keyboardist, bassist, drummer, and screamer. The screamer could scream pretty well, even if it was just your standard run of the mill hardcore scream. The guitarist who sang, however, had a really nice voice. I don't remember a single instrument that they used, but they looked nice. I'm pretty sure one of the guitarists had a Schecter, and the bassist used an Ibanez. The sound quality was good, they used some good amps and it was a small venue. The Music itself was basically harcore, at sometimes enough riffage to put it into the metalcore realm. The synths were a real nice touch too. If you like a lot of double bass, then the drums were great too. Great sing along choruses as well. Good show stuff. Everything was basically good, although the synths and lead vocals should have been turned up. They were too quiet. // 8
Perfomance: The audience seemed to enjoy them, their fans singing along during the choruses. As with all local bands, there are the other kids there Who sit in the back because they came to see someone else. Over the course of these guys performance though, a few of these guys came up to the front because they liked what they heard. There were plenty of hardcore dancers during the breakdowns, and while I am not a fan of this (it scares the shit out of me), it was interesting to see how the crowd responded to The Music. The bassist was definitely the most energetic throughout the performance. He jumped around across the stage, and I'm surprised he didnt Hurt anybody, since its such a small stage. He didnt even have a mic but he still got the crowd to sing along with the band. The most interesting thing, however, happened just before one of the breakdowns. This is quite possibly one of the most ridiculous things i have seen in my life. It really made me laugh out loud. Just as the breakdown was approaching, the bassist put his bass down, picked up a bubble machine, turned it towards the crowd, and as soon as the breakdown started he was in the pit (which was now raining bubbles) and started hardcore dancing with all the other guys in the pit. At the end of the last song, the crowd started shouting "One last breakdown!" and the band was like "You want one? You got it!" and proceeded to explode into their best breakdown all night. Overall a great performance. // 10
Impression: They might have been the openers of the gig, I really can't remember. Everyone there was a local band opening for Sky Eats Airplane. The show was great. Small venue shows always are. And for only 12 bucks, what is there to complain about? Best part: the bubble breakdown. No doubt. // 8
