Sound: They were phenomenal. Chino Moreno in top form since 2003 ('Deftones' album era). I never thought I'd see the day, but here was the Chino of old jumping around, screaming his guts out right in front of a sellout crowd for their first ever gig in the Philippines. The band tore up the WTC down with their relentless sonic assault. The overall feel and sound of them is something I cannot describe. If I had to put it into words, POWERFUL and OVERWHELMING would come to mind. It was an unreal moment for all Filipino and non-Filipino Deftones fans in attendance. // 10
Perfomance: I'm pretty sure its safe to say that the Deftones definitely enjoyed the crowd reaction they got. Chino messing around with a dude and his cap, getting (almost) half-naked during YOU'VE SEEN THE BUTCHER and wading through the crowd to be with the people at the back (CHINO: "Ya gotta give love to the baaaack...") during 7 WORDS, through the crowd again and then back on the stage with just one security guy with him. Awesomeness on all levels. A friend got teary-eyed during MINERVA, which was hilarious and awesome at the same time. Kinda disappointed that they didn't play HEADUP, KOREA, FEITECERA, etc. But nitpicks aside, overall it was a class act by the Deftones that night. Top notch.

Impression: Held at the World Trade Center in Pasay City, Manila, Philippines on 2/12/2011. The fan anticipation was certainly palpable. We got to the venue at around 3PM and people were starting to line up real early. Got real busy around 5PM and the gates opened at 6PM. I was really hoping for some official merch but all they had were CDs and some half assed t-shirt with the owl picture from the Diamond EYES album cover with the Pacific Rim tour dates printed on the back for 850 pesos ($19 USD).
Then came the obligatory wait, which seemed to last forever. We finally got in at around 6:45PM-7PM. First opener was SLAPSHOCK. Never been really a big fan of the band but they played a tight 3 song set. Next came URBANDUB, who I haven't seen play live since almost 3 years ago when they decided to relocate to Manila from Cebu (where I'm from and where the band is from). People expected a 3 song set also but surprise surprise, a Deftones crew signaled them to play on 2 more. People were wondering if the Deftones weren't ready or were still on their way to the venue, but as I found out a couple of hours after the gig from Lalay, a friend and who plays bass for URBANDUB the Deftones were actually just backstage listening and watching them do their thing. Apparently the Deftones found the music to their liking, which was awesome for URBANDUB. Ticket price was a little pricey (5,150 pesos=$119 USD) but was well worth it. Even if they priced it a little higher should they come back, I'd definitely see them again for sure. // 10
