Sound: The students union although basically a square room has passable acoustic and therefore the sound was good. I felt the volume could have been higher but this may have been because they wanted to reduce distortion. There were no major vaiamces on instruments used so noth out of the ordinary. // 6
Perfomance: The performance was good. This was the second time I have seen Duffy and the improvement in stage presence was huge. She has a way of interacting with the crowd that is very disarming but when someone tried to hecle her she cut them dead. There was an issue at the start because she did not have a support act and this meant a long long wait. This had two effects it meant the audiance became frustrated and led to a lot of the audience concentrating on getting drunk. This then meant when she came on part of the audience kept talking. This was fine during song like Rockferry or Warwick Avenue. However during her quieter songs you need to struggle to hear. Lighting effects were Ok nothing special although they did concentrate a lot of lighting towards a high level mirroe ball which still provides a good effect. Her trade mark closer Distant Dreamer was stunning and does leave you with a warm feeling. There was nothing new song wise and she used B sides to pad the show out // 6
Impression: This is a good venue and I have seen many concerts here. Drink is not over priced and there is generally a musically aware audience in attendance. This was not the case this time and at least half the audience were there purely because of Duffys Fame. Her voice is still outstanding and all she now needs to do is get caught smoking crack and she will be more famous than the beehived songstress from London. What iritaded me the most was the lack of respect some of the audience gave which was either getting to drunk to appreciate what was being played and talking through songs. The gigs at the Great Hall are always well priced with us paying £12 a ticket (not bad for a number one artitst) Duffy is going to be huge and has the potential for a long future so going to see her again is going to happen. // 5
