Sound: The sound was pretty decent and being a large venue (10,000 people on the night), it was very loud. Towards the front the sound was a bit funny as you were so close to the speakers but a bit futher back it sounded very good. // 9

Perfomance: The bands that played were:

The Blackout - a fairly new band from South Wales. Very hardcore and put on a good live show considering there were 6 of them on the smaller stage.

Gym Class Heroes - a very strange band mixing rap rock and hip hop. Complete with a flag bearer! Started off very well and everyone got into the swing of the slightly different genre but towards the end of their 30 minute set it became old and boring.

Silverstein - the first band onto the main stage and they instantly kicked off with fast paced guitars screamed vocals and rushed through a supposed set of 30 minutes in just 25. Got the whole crown involved during Smile In Your Sleep.

Bayside - similar to Silverstein in sound and approach but being on the smaller stage it was hard for them to put on a decent performance and all there energy did not transfer into the audience.

Aiden - I had never heard anything by this band before but my god I was impressed! They charged onto the stage and ripped into their first song with fast paced guitars and drums. The whole crowd got into this immediately and 30 minutes later everyone was impressed.

Classic Case - not a very heavy band but high on the melody but again on the smaller stage the crowd werent entirely into them. Not a very energetic show and this left me feeling bored towards the end of their set and desperate for the next band.

We Are Scientists - a funny bunch of guys. Not a very energetic show due to the fact that the bassist and guitarist both sang but the crowd got into their Indie rock style and after playing songs like Nobody Move, Noby Get Hurt and The Great Escape, the crowd were jumping around and creating the energy for themselves. Left a good impression.

Say Anything - after following a good peformance and taking quite a long time to set up the crowd were restless and as they kicked off their first song people around me were moving to the back already. They mixed a lot of humour into their songs with the lyrics but the lead singer didnt have a great voice and not everyone understodd what he was getting at.

Goldfinger - came onto the stage and immediately got the crowd into it. As soon as they started the intro to Open Your Eyes the crowd was singing along and I swear everybody in the crowd seemed to know them! They played Spokesman and Sans Simeon which also went down well with everybody but the highlight of their performance was when they kicked into Superman and everyone started moving like crazy. They ended their 30 minute slot with 99 Red Balloons and the crowd were shouting for an Encore for the next 5 minutes until the next band started ont he smaller stage.

Hundred Reasons - Goldfinger were always going to be hard to follow but Hundred Reasons managed it well kicking into some heavy material and getting the crowd into it. A lively performance but rather forgotten after the next band.

Angels & Airwaves - started off with the intro to Valkyrie Missle playing as flags and lights were appearing and the band then entered creating quite an atmosphere. As they kicked into the first verse of the song, confetti and huge Atticus balloons were released into the crowd from above. They played Distraction, which everyone sang along to, and It Hurts which went down well. Tom gave short speeches in between each song about life and other things before playing the intro of The Adventure, and singing the verses and chorus to Down. The crowd loved this and sang along the entire time with him before they kicked into The Adventure. He was able to stop singing for the chorus as the crowd were doing a good job of it. They then played Do It For Me Now which didnt go down as well as the previous and then after another short speech played their last song, The War, which was energetic and got the crowd moving.

Taking Back Sunday - after a 25 minute break they emerged and started off with Set Phasers To Stun which the crowd got into straight away, jumping around and having a lot of fun. They then played Cute Without The E and during this song the lead singer managed to hit the bassist in the face whilst swinging his mic around and they had to play the next 2 songs whilst he got his head bandaged up. He came back on with blood pouring down his face and with a big bandage around his head. They then played MakeDamnSure and What It Feels Like To Be A Ghost off of their new album and the crowd got into it moshing and jumping around like crazy. The ended on One-Eighty By Summer and their 40 minutes went by very quickly.

Lostprophets - headlining the day and with the longest slot the managed to get through quite a few songs. Kicking off with Start Something and Burn Burn the crowd got moshing and jumping straight away, screaming along the entire time. They then slowed down the pace a bit playing a new song which didnt go down too well but playing Last Summer afterwards which everyone sang along to. They then played some older stuff with The Fake Sound Of Progress and Five Is A Four Letter Word which went down well with the crowd getting back into the high energy stuff. They then played another new song which no-one really new and then introduced thier new drummer Who played an impressive solo. They got the crowd involved in their new single as he first taught everyone the chorus before kicking into it and got the whole crowd singing along. They had a quick talk to the crowd about being at a rock show and convinced all the people at the back and at the side to join in with the rest of the crowd jumping around before kicking into Last Train Home which everyone again sang along to. For their final song of the night they went back to their first album and played Shinobi vs. Dragon Ninja which created a lot of mosh pits and had the entire crowd involved in the high energy moshing and jumping as well as a lot of crowd surfing.

Impression: 30th April, Earls Court, London, England. The show was absolutely great and I will definately be going to it next year. The only downpoint of it was how much food and drink cost and the fact it was 10 hours long meant I was very tired the next day. As the tickets were only £30 it was well worth the money and the mic to the face of the Taking Back Sunday bassist was incredibly funny. Seeing Angels & Airwaves for the first time was also very nice. The only thing that could have made it better is if Taking Back Sunday had played Spin and maybe a few topless girls would go down well. All in all a fantastic day! // 10

fret o' manger :
Iwent the day before, when the (in my opinion) better bands played!

Id idnt get there right at the start though.. Ijust caught the end of Under Oath who were good.
Drive by were pretty good, althoug the crowd was completely static for thier set.

When panic at the disco came on the whole crowd was moving and jumping, and they were amazing. Thrice were pretty good as well, as were MCR headlining, who got the whole crowd singing along. My highlight of the day was probably Atreyu, who have een one of my fave bands for ages. They were AMAZING, one of the best live acts i've seen, although thats probably because i've liked them for so long

overall a great day at earls court on the 29th. Defo goinnext year!
